We recommend using an infant car seat for your newborn – they’re just so much more convenient, since you can pop the seat off of the base and get your baby out of the car without waking her up. A sleeping baby is a happy baby; parents with sleeping babies are happy parents. So our recommended trajectory for your car seat usage is to start with an infant car seat, move on to a convertible car seat (rear-facing, then forward-facing), and move on to a booster.
With that said, we do offer some car seat options that work from infancy straight through to the booster years, and they’re great seats – they will absolutely do the job of protecting your child in the car! However, while these seats are perfectly safe for a small baby and you can adjust the harnesses and padding to fit, our customers largely prefer the traditional infant seat. If you want to minimize your purchases, start with an infant car seat for the earliest months and then upgrade to a seat like the Diono Rainier Convertible and Booster Car Seat, which provides optimal protection right up through late elementary school.
