Kids tend to reach the height limit of their infant car seat before they reach the weight limit, so you’ll want to pay more attention to your child’s height than his weight. For effective use, there should be at least one inch between the top of your child’s head and the top of the car seat. Seats range from 29” - 32” height maximum.
Weight capacities range from 22 to 35 pounds, but people usually discontinue use long before their child reaches 35 pounds, since you don’t want to cart around a 30-pound child in an infant seat, and the main advantage of an infant car seat over a convertible is portability. So it’s generally unnecessary to get an infant seat that goes up to 35 pounds, and besides, seats with lower weight limits are lighter and generally cost less – a win all around!
