Update 5/2/2017: Umbrella Stroller Comparison

Small, light umbrella strollers make quick and easy tasks just a little bit easier, whether you’re running to the grocery store or walking to your umbrella stroller maclaren volonearest Magic Beans. Usually equipped with smaller wheels and under-seat storage, umbrella strollers have an overall compact footprint, allowing for a lighter weight stroller, ideal for travelling and carrying. If you’re ready to do away with your full-sized stroller and transition to an easy carry and fold, the 2016 Maclaren Volo Umbrella Stroller and the UPPAbaby G-Lite Umbrella Stroller are two great choices.

Since they created the first umbrella stroller, Maclaren has had over 50 years to master the art of engineering strollers that are convenient and lightweight. The Volo is one of the lightest strollers in their collection, at just under 10 pounds, and is suitable for a child of six months until they reach the maximum weight of 55 pounds (25 kg). The Volo is great for warm weather, as it features a cool mesh backing with removable and machine washable seat padding. Additionally, the Volo offers an extendable 50+ UPF sun canopy and built in sun visor, great for travelling on vacations. Priced at $150, the Volo provides its users with shock-absorbing suspension in its EVA tires, making it easier for you to push and providing a better ride for your child.

The G-Lite only weighs a smidge more than the Volo (10.7 pounds), and it holds a child starting from six months until 55 pounds. The G-Lite does have a few additional features that you may prefer, though: first of all, it has a standing fold, which can come in handy when you’re packing it into the trunk of your car, or into your hallway closet. Second of all, the fold is different – instead of the standard umbrella fold which uses your foot, buttons and loops on each side of the stroller handle enable a one-handed fold. (This will definitely be a plus when you’re wearing open-toed shoes!) Additionally, the G-Lite allows for the locking of its front wheels, permitting an easier stroll through sand or pebbles, or over rough sidewalks!

Both the Maclaren Volo and the UPPAbaby G-Lite are excellent choices for parents looking for a lighter stroller, making it easier to throw in and out of the trunk on an everyday basis. (That is, if you’re planning on a House Stroller and a Car Stroller, these will do a great job as the latter.)  They’re also terrific for travel and vacations. No more heavy lugging!
