Storytelling is one of the most ancient forms of entertainment, and one of the most universal: there is no culture in the world that doesn’t have its own folktales, origin stories, and traditional knee-slappers that are told again and again. From a primitive family gathered around a fire to your own family gathered in your living room, storytelling is a wonderful way to laugh and to bond.

Tell Tale from Blue Orange Games is a game that facilitates storytelling: each Tell Tale card has a picture on it, and a combination of cards elicits a story. Say, for instance, you pull these three cards:

• A sad face
• A banana peel
• A man pouring a bowl of cereal

Your story could be: “This morning, Dad poured me a bowl of cereal, but on my way to the TV room, I slipped on a banana peel and dropped it, and now I’m sad.”

The Tell Tale pictures include people, animals, plants, places, actions, emotions, and more, to encourage kids to get creative. A rule book is included with a few suggested play patterns, but like many Blue Orange games, the Tell Tale storytelling game allows you to improvise and invent your own family rules. You could each start with 4, or 5, or 6 cards, or start with an emotion card and use the subsequent cards to explain the emotion, or you could take turns pulling cards and adding to a single story… it’s all up to you!
