Chickyboom by Blue Orange Games at Magic Beans

When we first encountered Chickyboom, it was through a distinctive “CRASH.” A couple of our toy buyers were navigating the humongous Toy Fair in New York, and heard a mysterious clatter nearby. When they instinctively turned to check it out, they saw a table with some scattered game pieces. Around the wooden shapes, there were two giggling Toy Fair tourists and one proud representative from Blue Orange.

They were playing Chickyboom. The game pieces looked pretty elementary with the 6 chickens, 7 bales of hay, 7 wagon wheels, and one rocking platform. Each piece was assigned a number of points. After placing each wooden piece according to the directions, the players took turns removing each one to accumulate points. The results were really funny. Because a small shift of weight could topple the whole platform, the players were uber-cautious in their decisions. Whereas a wise choice would lead to much back-patting and excitement, a wrong one would send those pieces down in a crash and lose the player five points. Yep, we had to try our hand in Chickyboom too.

With the help of our friend from Blue Orange, we played Chickyboom and instantly loved it. Besides the thrill of this balancing act, the pieces themselves are beautiful. Like many of Blue Orange’s toys, this balancing game is made of smooth, solid wood which makes it durable, pleasing to the touch, and ultimately biodegradable. The chickens are fun to look at with their cartoonishly wide eyes and they have felt toppers for easy pick ups. Even though the game is easy to play for young kids, even adults will find themselves challenged time after time.

To make things even better, Blue Orange is committed to planting two trees for every tree they use to make their European-inspired toys. We are big fans.
