I did my research. According to the book "Baby Bargains", this is the mattress to get, if you're not going to go with a high-end organic one. According to various parenting forums and sites, this is a very popular mattress.
The mattress fits snugly in my crib, with basically no gap. It's not so tight that the sheet comes off or bunch up, but it's basically flush with the sides.
The mattress itself is foam, with a waterproof liner, so various baby liquids can't permeate the foam.
Caveat: I haven't actually used the mattress yet. We're still using a cosleeper.
