About the Diono Radian RXT Convertible Car Seat

Sometimes, all it takes to understand the value of a product is a good visual. So we’d like to direct you to the pictures of a Diono Radian car seat on the car-seat.org forums.* In the pictures, you’ll see Sarah Maglione’s car, crushed under three floors of a parking garage – and her Radian car seat, still intact.

Not only is the Diono Radian RXT Car Seat absolutely indestructible, but it’s also incredibly practical: your child can enjoy the benefits of this rolling fortress from birth all the way up to 120 pounds. It’s also terrifically easy to use, and it’s one of the narrowest car seats on the market, giving you more space in your car. Here’s the run-down on the Radian:

  • Usage: Your new baby can ride rear-facing in her Radian RXT car seat from 5 to 45 pounds. Rear-facing is the safest way to ride (check out crash test videos on Youtube for a sobering demonstration), so the high rear-facing limit keeps your child safer for longer. When she graduates from rear-facing, she can ride in the five-point harness from 20-80 pounds. Finally, the Radian RXT works as a high-backed booster seat that protects kids up to 120 pounds – that is, right until your child is tall enough to sit without any booster whatsoever.

  • Safety: Along with that awesome steel alloy frame, which disseminates crash forces away from your child’s body, the Diono Radian RXT car seat features reinforced sidewalls, an adjustable head support, the patented SafeStop energy absorbing harness, and EPS foam that surrounds your child’s head and body for complete Side Impact Protection (SIP).

  • Installation: The SuperLATCH system and deluxe push-on style connectors make installing your Radian RXT car seat a snap.

  • Comfort: The Radian RXT car seat snuggles the smallest passengers with removable infant support pillows. Once those are removed, your child will enjoy the advantages of memory foam padding, expandable sides, and a longer seat bottom for more room. Five harness positions let you tailor the fit perfectly for passengers of all sizes, and the car seat rides low on the seat so older kids can board easily on their own. Finally, the Radian RXT car seat comes with a cup holder, and slots for three more (sold separately).

  • Ease of use: The Radian RXT car seat is made to travel – while a seat that’s this sturdy isn’t light, it folds flat and comes with a carry strap, so you can take it along on trips abroad. The cover and head wings come off easily for cleaning; the car seat harness is easy to remove for cleaning or for conversion to a booster; the harness straps don’t twist; and convenient storage cubbies are provided for your tether, SafeStop, and lower LATCH connectors, to keep your Radian RXT looking neat when they’re not in use.

In the end, though, it all comes back to that steel frame, which Diono cites as the number one reason why parents buy Diono Radian RXT car seats. Look for reviews of this seat, and you’ll find endorsements from countless emergency professionals, and they know what they’re talking about. One dad reviewer summarized it nicely: “As an emergency responder, these seats look like they are designed for NASCAR.”

Pros:

Easy to Clean, Safe, Stylish, Comfortable, Easy to install, Sturdy, Easy to Adjust

Cons:

Fits perfectly in our truck. Our son is comfortable. We are using it rear-facing now but will switch to front facing in a few months. Sturdy, safe and attractive. I'd buy it again and again.

Great carseat for every age
June 15th, 2012
Pros:

Narrow, Comfortable, Safe, Sturdy, Stylish

Cons:

Heavy

We have two of these carseats and think they are great. They are narrow and allow for someone to sit in the middle back seat. My daughter is one and faces backwards and is very comfortable; while my 4 year old son feels like a big boy in his (and loves his cup holder). The safety reviews are up there with the Britax. My only complaint is that it is pretty heavy to carry when we have to travel (but it folds up nicely into a bag). If I have a third child I would buy another one!

compact and comfortable
June 10th, 2012
Pros:

Sturdy, Safe, Stylish, Easy to Adjust, Comfortable

Cons:

Heavy

This is a wonderful carseat for when your child is over age 2 and can face forward. It is very tall, so would be tough to place in rear facing position. Narrow which is great because you can seat a small person in the middle between our car seats. We may swap out our Britax for another of these when our younger son turns 2.

Great Purchase
June 10th, 2012
Pros:

Easy to Adjust, Great Features

Cons:

Bulky

I bought this as a second carseat for another car. It has the luxury of having places for cups and toys and is easier to adjust from the previous model.

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.

car seat that does it all
February 22nd, 2012
Pros:

Safe, Easy to install

Cons:

Bulky

As a parent and physician safety was key in choosing a car seat. I spent many hours researching car seats and felt this one was my best choice. We first purchased this seat for my son (now 22 months) and recently bought a second one for the arrival of our second child. It is a little bulky when back facing but very easy to use.

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.
