GroVia has found the perfect work-around for this diaper dilemma: the GroVia BioSoaker. The GroVia diapering system separates the diaper into two parts: the yucky part (the soaker) and the clean part (the shell). The soaker is an ultra-thin, absorbent, safe, natural, and gentle liner that catches and contains messes, and the GroVia Shell is the reusable diaper cover that holds it in place, which can be adjusted to fit babies from birth through potty training.

So the GroVia BioSoaker gives you the functionality of a disposable diaper with less waste: they’re smaller, lighter, thinner, and take up less space in your diaper bag, and when your BioSoaker is done with its short and unpleasant life, you can compost it in your flower garden. The BioSoaker contains no fragrances, dyes, plastic, or chlorine; the outer layer is Ingeo fabric (a synthetic processes from corn), the inner part is sustainable wood fibers and a small amount of SAP gel, and the waterproof outer is a thin layer of TPU. The waterproof outer and effective leg gussets help keep the shell clean, so you can keep using it – GroVia recommends using about two different shells a day.
