Do you co-sleep? Co-sleeping and bedsharing are, of course, two different practices (co-sleeping just means having the baby in the same room, while bedsharing means you keep baby in the bed with you), and opinions and statistics keep muddling them up – we can barely keep track. There are a few things that we do know for sure, though:
The Bassinest from Halo Innovations allows you and your baby to enjoy these benefits without any of the worries that can come with bedsharing: your baby can sleep inches away from you, but is completely protected by a cleverly designed barrier! The flexible oval bassinet swivels on a sturdy base so you can rest a large part of it right on your mattress next to you, or swivel it out of the way to get in and out of bed, with the Halo Bassinest fully supported on its own height-adjustable stand.
The wall of the Bassinest is made with see-through mesh for superior ventilation and visibility, so you can peep in at baby without sitting up. It squishes down nicely so you can reach across to soothe your baby when he’s fussy, and pops back up when you pull your arm away. Time to nurse? Just sit up and scoop baby out of the Bassinest, and plop him back into his own little bed when you’re done. You don’t have to get up to soothe or feed baby, and that means better sleep for everyone!
And that’s not all: the Halo Bassinest is also equipped with a “soothing center,” an electronic panel with a nursing timer, a night light, and soothing sounds, giving you even more options for easier nursing and soothing at night. It also includes a removable fitted sheet, and the bendy edge wipes clean (since babies are, alas, not 100% tidy).
The Halo Bassinest is such a simple and clever solution for safe co-sleeping, we wish we’d thought of it ourselves – you can enjoy the coziness of co-sleeping without the worry! The Bassinest is suitable for use from birth up to 20 pounds, or until baby can sit up independently.
very heavy/sturdy, attractive, swivels
not level, bump down the middle, thin mattress
Unfortunately this product did not live up to my expectations. It is not level in either the long or short direction no matter which way I turn the swiveling top. I have checked my carpet and it is not due to the carpet being uneven - I can move the top part up and down enough that it causes my baby to roll towards the mesh sides at night. The side may be harder to press down than you think. We actually called CS after the leveling issue came to our attention and they sent us a new top. The first top was much harder to press down on the one side. After installing the new top, we had the same issue with leveling though the side was easier to press down. I took videos of me moving the base up and down and of a level indicating the incline, and sent them to CS. They assured me that the variations in level are normal and are within manufacturing tolerances.
The mattress is rather thin and the velcro closure around the solid base under the mattress can be felt through the mattress - if I can feel it with my hand I imagine a baby can feel it if he is placed over the center line of the bassinet.
I feel these two issues -the leveling being my primary complaint - are unsatisfactory for an item of this price.
Easy to Assemble, Cool Feature, Looks Comfy
Very Heavy to Move
Though we haven't tried this with the baby yet (not born yet), from putting it together I can say it was very easy to assemble. I am very happy with the swivel feature in particular. It looks like it is going to be a life saver in regard to sharing our room with the baby.
I am extremely happy with all the features. Sometimes things don't work as they appear in ads, but this was exactly the same.
