Anyone who’s visited a LEGO store, a LEGOland park, or a toy trade show has seen some of the astoundingly detailed large constructions people can make with LEGOs, but have you ever seen LEGOs used to make big mechanical contraptions? For instance, check out this incredibly impressive and mesmerizing array of motorized LEGO machines harnessed to move along tiny plastic soccer balls, at the Great Ball Challenge event. Neat!
Kids can learn the basic principles that make these amazing machines go with the Klutz LEGO Chain Reactions book and playset. The LEGO contraptions in this book can swing, spin, pivot, roll, lift, and drop – and when they’re combined correctly, they’re even cooler! The set was created with input from both educators and 11-year-old kid creators, so even before you get started, you know it’s going to be both educational and fun.
The set comes with 33 LEGO elements, but kids will need to dip into the rest of their collection to get started building, so this set is best for little builders who already have a bunch of basic bricks. You’ll only need the most common bricks – just make sure your child is aware that nothing really HAS to be the same color as it is in the book.
Making the LEGO contraptions work takes a little patience and perseverance, but once they’re rolling, kids will be bursting with pride and eager to show off their creations! The Klutz LEGO Chain Reactions set tests their problem-solving skills, motor dexterity, problem-solving skills, and concentration, and applying all of these skills has an awesome payoff. Plus, once they’ve mastered the basic principles in the set, they can start creating their own contraptions – and maybe you’ll see them at the Great Ball Challenge one day!
The Klutz LEGO Chain Reactions set comes with a 78 page book, 33 LEGO elements, 6 LEGO balls, 6 feet of string, 8 paper ramps, 2 paper pop-up signs, 1 paper funnel ramp, 1 paper flag, 1 paper bucket, and 1 platform. Suggested for ages 8 and up.
