From the continent that brought us Impressionism and Nutella, here’s another European export that’s all the rage: the Mico infant car seat by Maxi-Cosi. For years, these sleek seats have been favorites for gear-savvy European parents but were unavailable in the United States. Until now.
Let’s start with safety. The Maxi-Cosi Mico surpasses national car seat standards and is constructed of the highest quality materials. It is lined with energy-absorbing EPP foam and has thickly padded side wings. There is an indicator on the base that tells you if the seat is level, so when you see green, you know you are good to go.
The Mico also gets high marks for comfort and style. Baby will love road-tripping in this cozy, deep seat. It comes with adjustable padded harness straps and a Cozi-Dozi plush insert to keep your baby’s head stable. You will love Mico’s practicality – the seat is lightweight, ergonomically designed, and features a retractable carrying handle. The Mico also has its undeniable good looks; you can choose from five great styles with jazzy names like “Juice”, “Penguin,” and “Happy Flower.”
But there’s more. We love that the Mico is compatible with both the Quinny Buzz and Zapp strollers. If you haven’t been introduced to the Quinny strollers yet, you should make their acquaintance. They are some of the lightest and tightest-folding strollers around. The Mico snaps right into either stroller, replacing the standard seat. Once baby has hit the 22 pound (or 29-inch) mark, you simply put the Quinny stroller seat back on. Quinny’s stroller and car seat combination is a winning one and it’s one of the very few travel systems we recommend.

Spilling the Beans:
Though Maxi-Cosi’s literature suggests that the Mico can be used until 12 months, some babies will reach the weight and height limitations as early as 6-7 months. Once your child has reached either 22 pounds or 29 inches, he should be moved to a convertible car seat to ensure his safety.
