Ergo Carrier #1 Baby Product 2009The Ergo Organic Baby Carrier disperses most of the baby's weight between her hips and thighs and helps to eliminate compression of the spine. Parents tell us their kids are so happy in the Ergo, they often go right to sleep. It is also great for your poor back. The Ergo was designed so that you support your baby's weight with your hips and shoulders.

While other carriers can strain your body, the Ergo features a wide and padded waist band that provides exceptional lower back support, much like those support bands that movers and weight-lifters use. Couple this unique support band with the super padded shoulder straps and you have one exceptional carrier. The Ergo is also versatile. Whereas a Baby Bjorn can only be worn on the front, the Ergo can be worn on the front and side and even the back (once the baby is about six months old or has the proper neck control).

Respect the earth and your baby by swaddling her in the softest, brushed organic cotton. These Ergo baby carriers are made of 100% certified organic cotton, and come in beautiful colors made to complement nature. Still just as durable, these carriers are made of organic cotton canvas, with 100% cotton batting inside the body of the carrier. You can even pop it into the washing machine. There is a small Velcro-sealed carry pocket sewn into the waist section and a cloth "sleeping hood" tucked into a large pocket at the back of your carrier. This cloth supports your baby's head when she falls asleep in the carrier.

Babywearing is in. Pediatricians, psychologists, and your big sister will tell you that it can be just the trick to a happier baby. Babywearing helps satisfy both your baby's and your own need for closeness and affection. She will feel calm and secure when she is snuggled up against you and listening to your heartbeat. Can you blame her? It's like getting a nice long hug from the person you love most.

But don't forget that this isn't just a passing trend. Parents all over the world, since the beginning of time, have used different kinds of slings to keep baby nearby. History shows that this is a natural and instinctive practice for parents and our modern studies show that babies cry less when worn or held. It's both soothing and enlightening for a baby to piggyback on Mom's and Dad's routines, feeling safe and loved while she learns all about her new world. So, find a great carrier, give that stroller a little rest and discover how rewarding it is to wear your baby as you go about your day.

With this revived babywearing trend has come many new models of carriers and slings. The Ergo Baby Carrier is one of the best of the bunch. It was designed by Karin Frost, a mom from Hawaii who wanted to design a better kind of carrier. The result is the Ergo with its ergonomic (yep, that's where that name comes from) design to support a correct sitting position for the baby's proper hip, pelvis and spine growth. Parents caught on right away and the Ergo has become one of our most popular carriers.

Features and Benefits:
Recommended use from newborn (with optional Infant Insert) up to 40 lbs
Can be worn on front, back or hip
Comes with detailed, illustrated instructions
Adjusts for most sizes - Waist circumference extends from 25" up to 43"
Attached sleeping hood - Supports sleeping baby's head
Front and rear attachment points for optional waist pouch
Padded waist belt - Supports the lumbar area, padding straps
Allows for freedom of movement because the parent and baby are like one
Convenient pocket - Easy access, even while you are wearing baby
More secure than a hard-frame for baby hiking and walking

Suggested washing instructions from company:

Use mild detergent on a gentle cycle in the washer and dry until seams are slightly damp. Spot wash when needed and do not wash frequently. Frequent washing and harsh detergents can cause 100% cotton to break down faster.

Accessories:
Infant Insert (sold separately)

Spilling the Beans: The Ergo is very straightforward to use in the front position. Using it on the side takes some adjustment to the straps, but once you learn how it works, it's a cinch. Wearing a baby on your back, however, will take some practice. We recommend you start out sitting down on the edge of a nice, soft bed or with a "spotter" nearby until you get the hang of it. Take your time and be patient - soon enough you'll be a pro!

Love this carrier!

I bought this carrier over the summer to travel with my baby girl. It is lovely and soft and I am happy that I went with the organic material. I flew to London on my own and this carrier was perfect. It did get a bit warm for my daughter - I would recommend not putting much clothing on your baby! I understand that Ergo makes a sport carrier that may be a bit lighter in the summer months. I have three other carriers at home and this is my favorite. One of the other carriers is the Moby which I also love, but you can't beat the Ergo for ease/ability to get your baby in it quickly. I wanted something that didn't hurt my back and I can honestly say, it didn't. I also like that you can use it as a side and back carrier.
Best carrier ever!

My children love to be held and I was having a hard time finding a carrier that was easy and fast to use and wouldn't hurt my back. I decided after hearing many reviews of the Ergo to buy it and I'm in love! I've taken walks, cleaned the house, etc while carrying my babyand NO back pain! My baby is so happy in there and my husband even carried my two year old and was comfortable. The top buckle (while wearing the baby in a front hold) can be a little hard to get to at first but with little practice I'm able to do it easily :)

Love my Ergo! This seemed like a lot to spend on a "baby" product for my 9 month old, but I'm so glad I did. When I bought this my twins were 2 1/2 and still rode in the stroller, and my third was 9mo. We do a lot of walking, and pushing the stroller with a 9mo old in the Bjorn was starting to get hard on my shoulders and upper back. So, I bought the Ergo and put the baby on my back and we both LOVE it! We can walk all day. The padded straps are comfortable. Sometimes the buckle digs in to my hip bone, but adjusting it or tucking in my shirt does the trick. She sleeps in it sometimes - getting the sleeping hood up is a little hard so she usually just rests her head on my back. It's been a year now, and I still use it all the time. It even saved the day for my 3 1/2 yr old after a long day at the zoo (now that is heavy... but it's easier than a piggyback ride!). Overall, really happy with the Ergo.
