Humans are what biologists would call "apex predators": we eat all kinds of animals, and no animal eats us. Our broad omnivorous diet also includes a wide variety of plant foods – fruits, vegetables, grains, leaves, and fungi – and milk and eggs. It's a pleasant way to live, always exploring new variations on the themes of sweet, salty, spicy, and sour.
Your baby is just getting started on a lifetime at the top of the food chain, so sit him on top of a high chair fit for a little king (or queen): the OXO Sprout High Chair, an attractive and comfortable extended-use chair that grows with your child. The seat adjusts in height and depth (with no tools necessary!) to accommodate kids as they grow, and even allows you to remove the tray to pull older kids up close to the table.
The Sprout High Chair marries form to function with a nifty modern look and an efficient, user-friendly design. The tray is designed to swivel out with one hand, and is stable when you place it on a flat surface, to make baby mealtimes easier. It's also depth-adjustable to accommodate your baby's growth. The five-point harness and crotch post keep babies safe in their seat, and the seat, back, and cushions are designed both to be comfortable and to improve baby's posture.
Cleanup is easy with the OXO Sprout chair – the foam-padded cushions all wipe clean (no PVC, BPA or phthalates). The chair's compact footprint means that it won't take up your whole kitchen or dining room, and reviewers say it's extremely easy to assemble. Recommended from six months to 36 months.
Adjusts in height and depth with no tools
Can accommodate children from ages 6 months to 36 months - and you don't need to bring out the toolbox to change the size.
When you remove the tray, you can seat older children right at the table.
Tray swivels out with one hand and is stable when you place it on a flat surface
Makes feeding babies easier - having a hand free is always important when you're dealing with babies, and you may need to put a loaded tray on a counter or other surface.
No PVC, BPA, or phthalates
Free of dangerous chemicals.
Comfortable, 5 point harness, relatively easy to clean
Food gets stuck in the velcro seat spots, pads are costly to replace and wear out quickly
I really like this chair. It is not a big hunk of plastic (aka eyesore), with a streamlined, functional design. I hate that the replacement pads cost $50, especially since we needed ours replaced after only 8 months. This thing gets cleaned thoroughly after meals, too, it's not like we left food on the cushions for days. I chose this over other wood high chairs because of the 5 point harness, and would recommend this but would mention the costliness of cushion replacement.
tray removal, sturdy, comfortable
clean up is a nightmare
My biggest (and really only) complaint about this high chair is the clean up. The removable padded seat has too many cracks and crevices for food to get into. Although the padded seat is removable, it's attached with velcro so it's impossible to pull it away from the molded plastic part of the seat without spilling all of the food on the floor. The pieces of velcro are attached to the molded plastic seat in the worst possible place - right at the spot where you would brush crumbs off the seat - thus getting crumbs and food stuck in the velcro. I think there is *still* salmon in the velcro on mine and anything I've used to clean the velcro (sponge, paper towel, rag) ends up stuck in it too. Really disappointed.
one-handed tray removal, cushions wipe down and clean easily, adjusts for growth
strap at crotch bar does not remove for laundering
This has been a great chair so far. Baby is 11 months so we haven't adjusted it for a larger child, but this chair fits an infant well, the tray zooms in and the seat shape keeps him from slumping or sliding down. I love how easy the cushions are to wipe down. The cushions and the shoulder straps come out and can be thrown in the laundry. My only complaint is the crotch strap does not detach so some food accumulates around that and can be tricky to clean, still it's much less than other seats we've tried. The tray can be adjusted or removed with one hand, great when you're holding a squirming baby. The plywood construction is sturdy and has a clean modern look.
Comfortable, easy to clean, attractive, sturdy, grows with child
tray not dishwasher safe
We got this high chair when our son was about 6 months old and we have absolutely loved it! It seems comfortable for him to sit in, it's sturdy and safe, and it looks cute in our dining room (which is at the entry to our home). It's easy to clean and I like how the pads come right off so you can clean underneath them if need be. I suppose the one down side is that you can't put the tray in the dishwasher (or at least I don't think you can), but that's not a big deal to me since we don't run our dishwasher nightly, anyway. Our son is now 15 months old and we're starting to pull him up to the table occasionally without using the tray and that's nice, too. I think we'll use that feature more as he gets better at using a spoon and fork- for now it's pretty messy! Overall great chair and I think it's worth the price.
Easy to move, perfect hight, easy tray adjust, easy to clean
Food can get easily stuck between the chair pad and the chair
I love this high chair. We bought this for our second child who is now 8 months old. The highchair for our first son started to wobble after 1 year. This is still stable in every way. It's easy to clean with the exception of the area under the chair pad.
Stylish, Size, easy to clean
We love our Sprout. We had a hard time finding a chair for our little one. Features that we wanted: stylish, clean design, smaller size, easy to clean and something that our child can use for a few years. After deciding on a much more expensive chair that had many accessories, (for additional cost, of course!) we found the Sprout! We love the easy to clean tray and cushion. We feel comfortable leaving it out in our dining room full time as it it isn't too baby-ish. We also love the height of the chair. If you are researching chairs, but sure to take a look at the Sprout.
small footprint, stylish, functional, grows with child, tray easy to remove and clean
straps are hard to keep clean
My husband and I agree that amongst all of the gear that we chose for our first child, the Sprout Chair was one of the best purchases.
We live in a small space and the chair pulls up nicely to our dining room table and doesn't require any additional storage space as it is more like a piece of real furniture-- not a total eye sore in our dining room. We started having our daughter use the tray which is easy to clean and remove, but by the time she turned one, we just pulled the chair up to the table. The chair is sturdy and well made and will certainly last us through our second little one as well. The seat is easy to remove for cleaning and wipes down easily.
The only drawback: the straps are made of nylon webbing and are a little difficult to keep clean. We remove them occasionally to soak to fully remove remnants of meals past. This is not a big deal and we would prefer this maintenance to dealing with the multiple cracks and crevices of other highchairs on a daily basis.
We love our OXO sprout and recommend it enthusiastically.
Sleek design, easy to clean, comfortable
Doesn't recline for smaller babies, tray occasionally stains
I am really happy with this high chair. I didn't want one of the big, bulky plastic high chairs, so I bought the OXO one because it blends in more with our kitchen and dining room and it has a small footprint and sleek design.
My daughter is 14 months and has been using it since 6 months. She seems comfortable in it and I like that she is at table level with us when we eat. The tray comes off easily with one hand and the tray and seat cushions are easy to wipe off. There's no fabric to worry about cleaning. The tray occasionally stains with some foods (carrots, spaghetti sauce) but it usually fades away after a few more uses. I think that this chair is really well-designed and solidly built and a great value overall.
Strength, quality construction, durability, adjustability, simple elegant look
Tray much easier to clean than the seat; area under seat not easy to clean
Outstanding item. Extremely durable. Flexible--seat height adjusts as your child grows. Tray removes and wipes clean easily. Look is nice, modern and sleek. One challenge is that the area under the seat is not easy to get glean, especially with the velcro tabs.
Comfortable, easy to clean, attractive
Very happy with this chair. My son started using it at about 10 months and he's been comfortable in it. The seat cushion is easy to wipe clean and it's helpful that it's attached with Velcro so that you can easily clean behind it. Overall a good choice.
easy to use & clean, looks great
gaps at sides of tray
I love this high chair! It's easy to use - one hand to remove the tray for cleaning, removable cushions. Comfortable for my son and adjustable for when he gets bigger. Only complaint is that the tray doesn't go in all the way around my son, so food gets dropped into the sides of the chair, and also the tray can stain with food.
Stylish, Functional, Easy to clean
A few design issues with the tray
This is my first baby (now 1 year old) and first highchair so I don't have much to compare it to but I love this highchair. It's super stylish and my baby is comfy in it. I find the tray and seat easy to keep clean. You can store the tray under the seat while not in use which is handy.
Here are the cons so far though which aren't showstoppers but I think OXO might want to take into consideration:
(1.) When I wash the tray, water collects inside the tray through the seams in the plastic and it's impossible to get it all out so I fear that mold and gross stuff might be forming inside the tray.
(2.) In order to lock the tray in place there is this mechanism with two plastic tabs which lately have been getting stuck inward half the time. So this means that my baby can push the tray forward rather than having it locked in the proper place.
Overall though I think this is a great highchair and I recommend it. I look forward to converting it to a "bigger kid" chair as my baby grows.
Comfortable, clean lines, easy to use
Tray is prone to staining
This is a great high chair. It is easy to use with one hand. It is the perfect size and is easy to clean. I would highly recommend it. I bought 2 - one for home and one for our second home.
