Peaceable Kingdom Race to the Treasure Cooperative Game

About the Race to the Treasure Cooperative Game

For some reason, monsters in fairy tales seem to feel compelled to collect a lot of treasure. We’re not sure why – what does a dragon do with a human-sized set of armor? What does an ogre need a diamond tiara for?

In any case, in the game Race To The Treasure by Peaceable Kingdom Games, players need to get to the titular treasure before a nasty ogre, because otherwise he’s going to keep all those pretty jeweled cups and magic mirrors for himself. This quick, easy, and fun cooperative game pits players “against the game” rather than against each other, teaching young players how to work together, as well as some basic strategy.

The Race to the Treasure game board is a simple grid with the start at one end, and the treasure at the other. To get to the treasure, players take turns drawing cards that either depict a chunk of path or the face of the ogre; if you draw an ogre card, then the ogre makes headway towards the goal, but if you draw a path card, the “good guys” make progress towards the keys they need to open the treasure, and the treasure itself.

Reviewers say that this game is simple and lots of fun; kids find the ogre hilarious, and find the maze-like paths they can build fascinating. The Peaceable Kingdom Race to the Treasure Game includes dice, key tokens, “ogre snacks,” ogre cards, and path cards. Suggested for ages 5 and up; all items are printed with soy inks, and the game instructions are printed on the box lid, so they’re impossible to lose!

WARNING: CHOKING HAZARD - Small parts. Not for children under 3 years.
