What can you do with a box of sand? Sand can be used to make glass, and bricks, and concrete. You can add it to paint to add texture. You can make some really cool animation with sand. And little coral creatures called zoanthids incorporate sand into their bodies to help them stick to rocks.
And sand is a whole lot of fun to play with! The Sands Alive! Starter et from Play Visions is the latest way to bring the fun of sand into your home: adding a few proprietary natural ingredients has transformed this sand into a unique substance that’s irresistible to touch, mold, squash, and roll.
Reviewers have described the feel of Living Sand as being somewhere between cotton candy, cookie dough, and flour; you can mold it into solid and sturdy shapes like moist beach sand, but when you squish it, Sands Alive! runs between your fingers in a way that feels a bit… alive. It leaves your hands feeling clean (you don’t immediately feel like you need to run to the sink to wash them before you do anything else), and it’s easy to clean up – pressing a blob of Living Sand to stray grains on the carpet will pick them right up.
Sands Alive! play sets provide kids with both creative possibilities and wonderful sensory stimulation: kids can build a sand castle or a snowman or a person, or just squoosh it, moosh it, and let it stream through their fingers. The Play Visions Small Sands Alive! Starter Set comes with a few basic tools (3 sculpting tools and a sand roller), but your kitchen is full of other items that are great with Living Sand – we saw a photo of someone using an ice cream scoop to play with Sands Alive! and we really want to try that now!
This set comes with 1.5 pounds of Sands Alive!, and it won’t look like much when you first get it because it’s compacted in the box, but it will expand substantially during play. You may want to have a larger container on hand for storage (it should be stored in a non-airtight container). Sands Alive! is 100% non-toxic and anti-bacterial, and is suggested for ages 4 and up.
WARNING: CHOKING HAZARD - Small parts. Not for children under 3 years.
