Quinny strollers are now available stateside! We’re pretty excited, because we love their cool aesthetic and reasonable price. This is a high end, all-terrain stroller with cutting edge technology, including a unique automatic unfolding mechanism – this stroller unfolds itself. Its patented design uses a gas spring in its central tube, so when you lift its handlebar a bit (which you can do with your foot), it rises smoothly on its own. All you need to do is pop on the seat and you’re off.
The Buzz can be used from birth with a Quinny Dreami carrycot (sold separately). The Dreami snaps onto the frame in a forward facing position so you can keep a close eye on your newborn, maintain eye contact, sing lullabies, etc. You can also adjust the handlebars to fit your physique. Once your baby reaches six months, you can use the regular seat, with its various recline positions, five-point harness, adjustable footrest and removable bumper bar. The seat can be used in either a forward- or rear-facing position.
The frame is aluminum and the ride is very smooth, even when you’re plowing over bumps, thanks to its rear suspension and 12.5” pneumatic back tires. It’s a dream to bounce up stairs too. The 7” front wheels, made of hard plastic, swivel and lock, making the maneuverability marvelous. It functions well on smooth streets as well as snow and ice. The brakes are color-coded. To engage, push the pedal over the right wheel. To release, push the grey pedal on the left wheel.
We already raved about the Buzz’s brilliant unfold. It collapses easily too, with the click of two release buttons and a downward push. To fold, the seat must be in the forward-facing, upright position. If you tend to use it in its rear-facing incarnation, you have the option of popping off the seat and then folding. Once folded, it’s a compact 33”x25.5”, making it relatively easy to lift even though it is not a lightweight model.
The Buzz comes with an all weather set that consists of a mosquito net, windstopper and rain cover, as well as a Buzz Box, a multi-compartmented, clip-on storage bag. There’s also a zippered storage pocket on the back of the seat. The Buzz also comes with adaptors to connect the Dreami carrycot or a Maxi-Cosi infant car seat (available Summer 2007).
Spilling the beans: We wish the Buzz had more storage space, but it forces us to pare down our pack. There’s no cup holder, but you can find a compatible one from another manufacturer. All in all, a small price to pay for the Buzz’s sleek look and smart functions.
