about the Rory's Story Cubes

Every night, before he goes to bed, David wants to hear a story. It’s not hard to make him happy: all you have to do is make sure that the story is about Batman. Only, after two hundred consecutive Batman stories, you’re starting to run out of Bat-ideas.

Perhaps Rory’s Story Cubes from Gamewright will help. These Cubes are designed to kick-start stories for any occasion, whether it’s a family gathering, a long car trip, bedtime, or just solo writing or drawing. The nine Gamewright Story Cubes have a picture or symbol on each face (enabling pre-readers to play), and you roll as many dice as you like and create stories around what you roll. Examples:

  • Objects on dice include a pyramid, a tree, a padlock, a lightning bolt, and more;
  • Animals on dice include a sheep, a turtle, a fish, and more;
  • Ambiguous symbols include a sad face, a word bubble, and more.

There’s no one way to play with Rory’s Story Cubes. Use them as a party game, an ice breaker, as reinforcement for a foreign language (get your child who’s learning Spanish to tell a Rory’s Story in Spanish), or as material for a homeschooling writing assignment. Make up your own rules: perhaps everyone in the room takes a turn telling one sentence of the story? Or all the stories have to be true? Or all of the stories have to include Batman?

Playing with Gamewright Rory’s Story Cubes enhances imagination, creativity, and vocabulary and language development. But most importantly: they’re lots and lots of fun. Recommended for ages 8 and up.

WARNING: CHOKING HAZARD - Small parts. Not for children under 3 years.
