Various animals have additional sensory abilities, and some of them are pretty neat – for instance, bats and dolphins use sonar (and thereby hearing) for navigation, and to locate prey. Flies and butterflies can taste with their feet. And many critters can see ultraviolet light.
Your baby is still figuring out the basic five senses, though, and the Skip Hop Alphabet Zoo Activity Gym is designed to give her a good start, with some plushy animal friends. This baby play gym is made to grow with her abilities throughout her first year, with a quilted play mat, a tummy time pillow, two play-gym arches with 13 toy-hanging loops, and five fun animal toys. The loops give you plenty of options for hanging toys – put them near the baby so newborns can stare at them, or put them farther away so older babies need to reach out to hear a rattle or a song. The hanging toys include:
The tummy-time mat also includes a removable baby-safe mirror, plus tactile fringes, flaps and crinkles. Alphabet letters are included everywhere, to begin familiarizing your baby with what letters look like, and the playful patterns and linen details on all items will keep babies fascinated and engaged. Switch in and out various toys to keep baby interested and challenged. And when your baby outgrows this play mat, it makes a great wall decoration. Made with cotton, polyester, and linen; suitable for use from birth onwards.
