To kick off our 31 Days of Giveaways, we wanted something really special. The Chicco Keyfit 30 car seat has an interesting history with Magic Beans. The first time we ever saw a demonstration of that seat, we were amazed. The engineering of the base is ingenious, and it is designed to be nearly foolproof to install. But in spite of our overwhelmingly positive reaction, we didn’t order the Keyfit. Philosophically, we do not believe in travel systems that don’t offer anything beyond coordinating fabrics. We believe that a stroller is an investment in mobility, and the decision of which stroller to buy should never be based on a matching car seat.
When the Keyfit made its debut, the attachment system was unique and proprietary, and it was not compatible with any strollers outside of the Chicco brand. And while the Chicco strollers are a great value, they are also heavy and bulky — not ideal for going in and out of the car. So we waited and watched. Sure enough, the Keyfit started to take off, and soon other stroller manufacturers started to take notice. Today, there are a few great strollers that will accommodate the Keyfit, including the UPPAbaby Vista (with Chicco car seat adapter) and the Maclaren Easy Traveler (unofficially, but we’ve tested it and it looks perfect).
