Some folks start out from day one knowing what they want to do for a living; others simply have it happen to us. For instance, the baby gear industry just sort of happened to me, and I remember the moment that it began.
I was doing editorial and administrative work for the National Parenting Publications Awards (NAPPA), and was already quite well-versed in the toy biz, but we had just added baby gear as a major awards category that year. I didn’t know a thing about strollers, diapers, car seats, or bottles, but I had spent the last few months poring through hundreds of mostly handwritten reviews from a few dozen parents who we had recruited to test products, so I felt like I had a pretty good handle, at this point, on what we were doing.
“But,” I asked my manager, who had selected the original Baby Jogger City Mini for a Gold Award, “Just what is so special about this stroller? I mean, the orange is cute, but what’s the big deal?”
As you may know, the big deal with the City Mini is the same as the big deal with all City Mini models since, including the GT in this video: to fold the City Mini Stroller, you pull up a handle in the seat and it simply claps in half.
After a good five minutes of unfolding and refolding the City Mini and repeatedly saying “Oh my god! That’s so cool!”, I was hooked on the thrill of discovering new and unexpected products that make life easier for parents. And that’s a really long way to explain my reaction to the new Baby Jogger Vue Stroller.
The Vue Stroller is the first umbrella stroller with a reversible seat. It takes literally two seconds to reverse: you don’t need to remove the seat fabric, or the hood, or the harness. Just recline the seat in the opposite direction and adjust the hood to the angle you want, and the seat is reversed! I think I may have clapped and giggled a little when it was first demonstrated for me.
