Peg Perego Tatamia High Chair

tatamiaWe’ve got a reputation here for being pretty picky about baby gear, and high chairs are no exception to the rule. For a new high chair to make it into our stores, it needs to be innovative. It’s been a few years since we had a Peg Perego high chair in the mix. When last we saw the Prima Pappa, it was a bulky plastic high chair that was exceedingly difficult to clean (this is first-hand information – I remember trying to scrape the small crevices with a toothpick). It folded, it reclined and it was height adjustable, but all those features slowly faded in contrast to the simple elegance of the European wooden high chairs. The new Peg Perego Tatamia is a sleeker high chair than its predecessor, and it does double duty by converting to – get this – a swing!

Peg Perego is calling it a 3-in-1 chair, because it’s a reclining stationary seat for infants, it’s a swing and it’s a high chair that can be used with or without a tray. The swing mode isn’t perfect. There’s no motor, so it’s parent-powered — an intentional decision, Peg Perego says, to encourage parents to interact more with their babies. And the recommended age range for babies using the swing is birth to 6 months, so if you have a baby who really likes to swing, the Tatamia isn’t really going to be a good, long-term solution. But, on the other hand, most high chairs sit in the box for the first six months, and see plenty of action after that. So the Tatamia is a really appealing baby gift that can be used right from day one.

The Peg Perego Tatamia has nine different height adjustments and four recline settings. The cover is made of an easy-to-clean “eco-leather”, and the double tray is dishwasher-safe. It folds very compactly for storage. Honestly, while I do like this high chair, my jury’s still out on whether the swing feature is a cute gimmick or a great value-added feature, but the early reviews from parents have been very good. If you have one, I’d love to hear what you think.

  1. I think Lily on the sitcom Modern Family was sitting in one of these last night. She also has a Peg carseat and stroller. Nice product placement.

  2. We bought the Tatamia for our first baby and love it. Its easy to clean, adjusts to table and counter height (so she can watch prep from her chair or I can have coffe at the counter w her and her Cheerios). It has several recline pisitions so she can realx with a bottle while we finish up dinner.
It is easy to roll around the kitchen. It looks like a lazy boy for babies while still look pretty cool.
It is her booster seat now she is 1 1/2.

Ok all that said for $50 and a lot less style my friend has a high chair that reclines, and is easy to clean.

I like the height adjustability and mobility but never used the swing.
