Revisiting a Favorite: An Ode to the Baby Jogger City Mini GT Stroller

Just how much do our Stroller Geeks nerd out about our jobs? Sometimes, we just start talking about how cool a feature on a stroller is and it turns into a whole blog. Nat took all of the fabric off of a Baby Jogger City Mini GT Stroller just to demonstrate this cool feature for a customer, and she was inspired to write more about why this stroller is one of her faves. Enjoy!

At Magic Beans, our selection of baby gear is hand-picked by parents, who look for unique products that are beautiful, functional, and make parent’s lives easier. As someone surrounded by gorgeous strollers nearly 24/7, I can practically wax poetic about the design of the Bugaboo Cameleon, or the brilliant colors on the Cybex Priam. Today though, I want to take a moment to talk in-depth about one of my underrated MVP’s: the City Mini GT.

For a quick background: like many of my customers, I live in an apartment in Boston. I don’t have tons of storage space, and for six months out of the year, the sidewalks are caked with snow, slush, and salt. For the other six months, the sidewalks are cracked and bumpy (we’ve got plenty of brick and cobblestone around here too).

Enter the City Mini GT: a sporty and stylish ride with all the easy compact-ness of a travel stroller, with the benefits of a full primary.

If you haven’t seen this guy fold, it’s basically a magic trick. There’s a strap that says “pull to fold” in the middle of the seat, and that’s literally all you have to do. The whole thing collapses and locks on one side, making this the simplest stroller to fold up and toss into your trunk. And with a maximum weight limit of 65 pounds, this is a stroller that can hold the older kids just as easily. The three-wheeled design is incredibly narrow, making this one of the best options for maneuvering through tight aisles – and it weighs just shy of 21 pounds!

For everyday use, the rubberized foam wheels and built in front-wheel suspension can turn terrain from bumpy roads to smoother sailing. It has a full sunshade for when you’re out and about, as well as a super deep, super easy recline. The GT also has a super adjustable handlebar (we counted: there are 13 different angles!), making life easier for families with parents of different heights. Instead of a foot brake that could scuff up your shoes, this stroller has a stable, easy hand-brake. And the fabric is also super easy to clean, which I’ll say more about in a minute.

While the bucket seat is not appropriate for children under six months, and the seat can only face out, this stroller will work with multiple infant car seats, making this into a durable travel system. You may think it would look a little weird having a car seat sticking out of the stroller, but in fact, all of the fabric can come off of this seat. All of it.

Behold! In all its glory!

This turns the stroller into a convenient travel frame for the first six months. Also helpful if there’s ever a spill inside the seat and it needs to be scrubbed!

In conclusion, this is one of our favorite strollers for New England cities, for a myriad of reasons. After all, when the going gets tough, the tough get rolling!
