Twice is nice: creating a baby registry and toy shopping for twins

Did we mention that Magic Beans is owned and run by parents? Not only is Diane Holmes, a store associate at Magic Beans Norwell, a proud mama, but she’s also a grandmother. And as you’ll see, she knows a LOT about twins! Here’s a few of her tips on shopping for two.

twinbabiesAs a proud mom of twin boys, and a proud grandmother of twin girls, I love when asked to help create a baby registry or suggest gifts for twins! Whether they are boy/girl twins or same sex twins there are lots of questions, and lots of great options.

The most frequent question that we get for twin registries is, what do we need to double up on? It all depends on the product category: you’ll definitely need two infant car seats, two travel cribs, and two high chairs. I had limited floor space when my twins needed to be in a high chair, so I opted to use 2 hook-on chairs that attached to my sturdy kitchen table. Like the Inglesina Fast Chair, currently available at Magic Beans, they were super easy to attach and remove, and their compact fold made them easy to bring along if we went to a restaurant or visited family.

Other items, you’ll only need one of, like one baby monitor and one diaper pail. For obvious reasons, you’ll want a double stroller: I chose a Maclaren side by side double twin stroller, a truly classic stroller that can be used from birth through preschool. Magic Beans offers the very same Maclaren Twin Triumph Stroller with the same sturdy mechanisms and updated, improved fabrics. My twins could have their face time and not worry who would sit in the rear seat! I used this stroller for many years, including with my twin granddaughters.

How about gifts for older twins? In order to keep them from arguing over a favorite item, you might want to get them each the same item but in a different color or style – say, a dump truck and a backhoe, or two similar role play sets. Or, get them items that require two to play, like a large LEGO set to share, or a badminton set. A twin tip: my twins enjoyed remote control toys, like race cars, speed boats, and motorcycles, and I quickly discovered that the toy needed to be different MHZ frequency or the remotes on the toys would interfere with each other!

Still stumped on what to get for your awesome twosome? Don’t worry – we’ve got you covered! Just come into any Magic Beans store and our gear gurus and toy whizzes will help you choose the gear and toys that you need.
