Heavy Duty

Apparently, Cybex is getting into the baby market. Last year, the fitness company introduced a revolutionary new high-back booster seat at this show and won the coveted innovation award. This year, they’ve brought out a fascinating new convertible car seat, and won it again. When we visited, we met JB, the VP of Sales for… read more!

Is that a term of endearment?
Categories: Baby, Kind + Jugend 2006, News and Information, Strollers, Travels & Trade Shows

We just ordered the Mutsy strollers in Las Vegas, so we were curious to see what they were unveiling here. They showed off a new, brighter color palette for the Spider, as well as a completely new chassis concept which is outstanding. The handlebar is attached to the seat frame, which, like the bugaboo, can… read more!

Sheri and Isaac go to Red Castle
Categories: Baby, Baby Carriers, Kind + Jugend 2006, News and Information, Strollers, Travels & Trade Shows

Although we have not yet decided to carry the Red Castle strollers that will be available in the US, we were curious to check out their booth. Inside, we found some gorgeous stroller and car seat covers that will be very nice in the winter. We also met the Red Castle baby carrier, which is… read more!

Emmawho?
Categories: Baby, General, Kind + Jugend 2006, News and Information, Strollers, Travels & Trade Shows

At the Emmaljunga booth, we discovered that even this venerable pram manufacturer has jumped onto the hybrid bandwagon, with a chassis that features the asymmetrical wheel configuration. It has quite a nice feel, actually. I’ve never seen a new Emmaljunga, since they are no longer available in the US, but I’ve heard that they’re very… read more!

And speaking of safety…
Categories: Kind + Jugend 2006, Travels & Trade Shows

At many booths, we’ve approached the staff to ask about product availability in the US, and we keep hearing the same story: “Our product can’t meet the safety standards there.” Evidently it’s a miracle that all these European children survive infancy. And based on the number of bikers whizzing around this city without helmets, it’s… read more!

Hi Ho Quinny
Categories: Baby, Kind + Jugend 2006, News and Information, Travels & Trade Shows

Once we had established our legitimacy, we had full access to this booth. I am not familiar enough with the Quinny line to really know the difference between old and new, but it seems like the color palette has had an update. Interestingly, the new Quinny colors are very similar to the 2006 Maclaren lineup,… read more!

Hauck: the sound of music
Categories: Baby, Kind + Jugend 2006, News and Information, Strollers, Travels & Trade Shows

Upon arriving at the show, our first stop was the Hauck booth. We were drawn in partly by the shiny rows of strollers, partly by the long entryway into the booth that was lined with cartons of gleaming green apples and partly by the amazing bar that took up about half of their exhibit space…. read more!

Sweet Cologne
Categories: Kind + Jugend 2006, Travels & Trade Shows

After arriving on Friday morning and checking into our hotel, Isaac and I took the subway over to the Koelnmesse, (aka convention center). Not surprisingly, the Koelnmesse is an impressive place. It is enormous and the entry areas have stark white interiors and soaring ceilings. Unlike the shows I’ve seen in the US, we do… read more!

Kind + Jugend Day One
Categories: Kind + Jugend 2006, Travels & Trade Shows

We arrived in Cologne this morning after an exhausting red-eye flight from Newark, NJ. We checked into our hotel and then high-tailed it to the show, where we were dazzled by the structural complexity of each booth, the array of products on display, and the alchohol that was being dispersed to those in attendence. Let’s… read more!

This teddy isn’t for hugging
Categories: ABC Show 2006, Baby, Travels & Trade Shows

Even though we took an infant CPR course when I was pregnant for the first time, like most parents, the thought of using any of those skills scares me to death. In a pinch, I can’t imagine I could reliably recall the critical details I learned that day almost five years ago. So, while it’s… read more!
