Enrichment Treat Day
Animals like to get presents too! Visit the Tropical Forest at Franklin Park Zoo to watch as several of the animals, including the gorillas, get special holiday-themed treats. They have to explore their exhibits to find special treats, such as novelty foods, boxes, bags and toys hidden inside boxes or hung from trees.

Saturday, January 1

New Year’s Open House
In a generous annual tradition, the Isabella Stewart Gardener Museum starts off the new year by welcoming visitors for free. It’s a great chance to bring your kids to a charming museum without spending a dime 280 The Fenway. 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Visit the website for the full schedule.

First Day Hike
Join Department of Conservation and Recreation park rangers from the Blue Hills Trailside Museum for a free hike through the Blue Hills Reservation. You can take a one- or two-hour trek or a special one around the pond just for families. Houghton’s Pond parking lot, 840 Hillside St., Milton. Free soup at noon. The Mad Hatter’s Tea Party
