What’s really up with the metoo seat?

On Friday, late in the afternoon, I saw a news release from the CPSC that was unlike anything I’d ever seen before. Even the headline was unusual: “Consumers Urged To Stop Using phil&teds USA Clip-on Chairs Due To Serious Dangers Posed To Children.” What was this? A recall? A warning? Were ALL metoo chairs affected by this? But the headline ... Read More »

phil&teds recalls Sport V2 and Classic V1 buggies

This week, phil&teds announced a voluntary recall-to-repair of their Sport V2 and Classic V1 strollers. The hinges can pose an amputation and laceration hazard if fingertips are inserted while the stroller is folding or unfolding. The phrase “amputation hazard” is chilling, but if you can just keep your fingers away from the stroller’s hinges during opening and closing, you’ll be ... Read More »

Nap Nanny Recall

In my recap of the ABC Spring Show in Louisville this past May, I mentioned the Nap Nanny, a baby recliner that has been getting a lot of buzz lately. Today, the Nap Nanny was recalled because a 4-month old baby suffocated when she was strapped into a Nap Nanny that had been put into a crib. The baby rolled ... Read More »

Step 2 Recall – Push Around Buggy and Whisper Ride Buggy

Step 2 has just recalled 2.5 million Push Around Buggy and Whisper Ride Buggy ride-ons. This is a recall to repair, which means that Step 2 has devised a solution that will eliminate the safety hazard, and they will send parents a repair kit at no charge. What’s the problem? The yellow pin that holds the parent handle in place ... Read More »

Slings shot?

The CPSC is apparently preparing to issue a warning to parents regarding the use of slings with infants, according to numerous media sources. Inez Tenenbaum, head of the CPSC, addressed the Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association yesterday and broke the news, saying “We know of too many deaths in these slings and we now know the hazard scenarios for very small ... Cybex recalls 1100 strollers

Following in the footsteps of Maclaren, Cybex has announced a voluntary recall of their Gems series strollers – the Ruby, Onyx and Topaz models. These umbrella-fold strollers have a nearly identical folding mechanism to Maclaren, so this should come as no surprise. According to the press release we received from Regal Lager, the US distributor of Cybex, there has been ... Read More »

Maclaren Recall (it’s OK – really)

First of all, calm down. Yes, Maclaren is recalling one million strollers. And yes, some children have been injured by the strollers during the past 10 years. BUT. There are two very important things to keep in mind: 1. This is a voluntary recall – in spite of the injuries (and their frightening nature), the CPSC has not mandated that ... Read More »

Day 28 – Babysitter Balance

We’ve had our fair share of funny coincidences surrounding these giveaways. Like all the winners from the South Shore area, one of whom even won twice! But we weren’t laughing when we got a call that our scheduled giveaway for today was going to coincide with a voluntary recall announcement. Yep, that’s right, today’s giveaway is the Baby Bjorn Babysitter ... Read More »

Bugaboo Bee recalled

The CPSC announced today that the Bugaboo Bee stroller has been voluntarily recalled. Apparently the brake mechanism can wear out over time, causing it to fail on one or both sides. Thank goodness, no injuries have been reported. Anyone using this stroller should stop using it immediately and contact Bugaboo to receive a free repair kit. The form is simple ... Read More »
