Dinner time is about much more than just eating. Though everyone loves your spaghetti and meatballs, meals are also about family bonding. As plates of food get filled up and enjoyed, you and your kids can unwind from the day with lots of story sharing, laughing and (of course) some good eats. No matter how great your tomato sauce is, however, a wonderful meal can quickly turn stressful when your toddler starts wiggling impatiently and your 6-year-old escapes to play with her dolls. What happened to that idyllic, family dinner? Why can't the kids stay put?
Why Can't Kids Sit Still?
To be fair, it's hard for kids to sit through a meal. Let us pinpoint the culprits. First, there is the issue of seat height. When your child uses a traditional high chair, he ends up sitting on his own island. Sitting outside the perimeter of the table can be boring, lonely, and doesn't let kids fully share in the dinner experience. Not to mention, dangling legs are uncomfortable legs. Because many highchairs don't have footrests, kids aren't able to rest their legs or reposition themselves easily. Surely, a redesign of the highchair was in order.
A Revolutionary, Ergonomic Chair
In 1972, a Norwegian dad was frustrated that his toddler couldn't sit comfortably at the family table. Luckily, this father was also the brilliant designer Peter Opsevik who was inspired to build the prototype for a new kind of high chair. The result was the ergonomically-designed Stokke Tripp Trapp®.
A comfortable kid is a happy kid. The Tripp Trapp® was designed to eliminate discomfort by featuring a height- and depth- adjustable seat and footrest. The Tripp Trapp® allows kids of all ages and sizes to sit at table level, just like you. The footrest is another key element that provides leg relief while allowing kids to shift positions themselves.
An Eco-friendly and Safe Choice
While a comfortable chair is a godsend for the body, a safe chair makes for real peace of mind. The Tripp Trapp® offers both. To build a safe piece of furniture, start with the materials. This chair is made of gorgeous, smooth, cultivated beech wood. Not only will this offer splinter-free sitting, but the all-natural wood and paint finish won't release any harmful chemicals into your home or the environment.
Your child will also stay in place thanks to the angle of the design and the 5-point safety harness. Each Tripp Trapp® also comes with Stokke Extended Gliders™, plastic feet that add greater stability when attached to the bottom of the chair. Once your baby can sit unassisted (about 6-8 months), you can begin using the Tripp Trapp® with the Baby Set™. When a child reaches about 18 months, this safety set is no longer necessary, though you'll want to use the included 5-point safety harness until about 3 years of age.
The Developmental Benefits
It just so happens that this well-designed piece of furniture encourages family bonding. No, the Tripp Trapp doesn't have any flashing lights or batteries or sound effects. It encourages simple, beautiful, and instinctive bonding to take place around your dining room table. By sharing the table, your child is able to physically and emotionally connect with the rest of the family while picking up on social cues and building vocabulary. Not only does the Tripp Trapp enhance the meal experience, but it fosters independence thanks to the safety-minded design. The no-tip, table level design gives toddlers freedom by letting them climb into the chair and reach food unassisted.
A Value-Packed Chair for Your Family
The Tripp Trapp is a wonderful investment for your family's safety and enjoyment. It is also beautifully built and comes in an array of fresh colors, making it a stunning addition to your home's decor. As the chair grows along with your child, it's easy to keep it clean by wiping it down with a damp cloth. The Tripp Trapp's protective coating and limited joints will make it simple to keep the chair in great shape. Invest in a Tripp Trapp - it will last a lifetime.

Great:
the look,
children like it,
But...:
Not steady. As soon as the baby is gaining strength and weight he can easily push the chair and they will both fall.

I love this chair. I compared it to my friends similar chair but there was no comparison! Its good looking in my dining room, easy to clean, and my daughter loves sitting in it. Its not a baby chair but more of a big kid chair. Pricy but worth it!
Easy to clean and stylish too!

I own three of these - one for each of my kids. I love how I will be able to use them for YEARS to come and since I've actually sat in them myself, have found them to be quite comfortable. They match my dining room furniture and have a much smaller footprint that bulky plastic high chairs. The best feature is that they are super easy to clean. Truly, these are an excellent investment!

I love the Tripp Trapp! My 11-month-old uses it with the baby set and table top in lieu of a "regular" high chair. It's very stable in the face of his constant bouncing, and I love that he can eat with us at the table. Plus, the Tripp Trapp looks great in the dining room and has a smaller footprint than a high chair with a tray.
Good chair only one complaint

My brother and I had Stokke Tripp Trapp chairs when we were growing up, and we used them from toddler-hood to junior high, so I loved the idea of getting one for my daughter. Its a great chair--sturdy, stylish, and will last a long time. My only complaint is that the Stokke Table Top is so over-the-top expensive, and they're aren't any good alternatives to it, so sometimes i envy people with high chairs with trays because it is hard to have a baby and young toddler at the table and prevent them from damaging the table without a solid tray.

Great chair! Forget plastic high chairs with trays - let your child eat at the table with you. All 3 of our children have a Tripp Trapp (ages 8 - 7 - 1) and use them daily. Highly Recommend!
