Legendary Hollywood actresses Olivia de Havilland and Joan Fontaine are sisters, separated by only one year. Olivia's most famous role was Melanie in Gone with the Wind, and Joan won an Oscar for her role in Hitchcock's Suspicion. But throughout the years of their stardom, and well into their old age, the two multitalented actresses have been separated by a sibling feud, and have not spoken since the 1970s. The feud began when they were both nominated for the Best Actress Oscar in 1941, and Joan won, beginning a lifetime of competition.
The 2013 / 2014 UPPAbaby Cruz stroller might be considered the upstart that unseats her older sister, the beloved UPPAbaby Vista stroller, but the Vista needn't worry: her little sister is equally wonderful, but for different reasons. The UPPAbaby Cruz is a smaller, lighter version of the Vista, without the options for a bassinet and a second seat. Families who want a lighter stroller will choose Cruz; those who need to accommodate another child will want to go with Vista. So there's no need to compete – unless strollers start getting nominated for Academy Awards.
Weighing in at a zippy 19 pounds, the 2013 / 2014 UPPAbaby Cruz has a seat that's the same size as the Vista's on a narrower frame, 21" wide – this stroller will have no trouble getting through doorways or navigating the grocery store checkout. The seat is reversible, with a neat five-position recline, operated with a handle at the top of the seat. The wheels are a bit smaller than the UPPAbaby Vista's, but they have the same excellent four-wheel suspension, and ball bearings in the wheel give your child a wonderfully smooth ride. The UPPAbaby Cruz is a great city stroller, combining a reasonable weight and excellent maneuverability with the ability to skim over sidewalk cracks. And you don't even have to worry about your shoes – the brake is designed to operate easily even with flip-flops.
For infants, get an adapter and click in your car seat carrier – UPPAbaby adapters are available for Graco and Chicco. Or, get the Snugseat accessory and recline the seat completely flat. For older kids, the Cruz stroller's canopy has two positions, so tall children won't be hunched under a low roof. The canopy offers excellent coverage, with an extendable 50 SPF sunshade. And the handle is height adjustable, so don't worry if you're tall or short; UPPAbaby has you covered.
Finally, like her sister, the Vista, the 2013 / 2014 UPPAbaby Cruz Stroller has a grand finale: her fold is simple, elegant, and compact. The Cruz gives a beautiful performance on stage or in the city, and is a very welcome addition to the UPPAbaby family.
