Every year, the JPMA show holds a competition for Innovation Awards. These prestigious prizes are given to products in ten categories. This year, the car seat award went to the new Olli booster seat from Clek. This backless booster offers a rigid latch attachment system that anchors the seat into the car as an added measure of protection (you still use the seat belt).
The Olli is constructed with lots of padding to eliminate what the company calls “numb bum”, or the uncomfortable numbness and tingling that comes from sitting on a hard surface for a long time (as I write this, sitting on a rather hard chair, I myself am experiencing this sensation). The seat is ultraportable, weighing in at just 5 lbs, and it installs and disengages in the blink of an eye. There’s a storage pocket attached, and the cover is removable and machine washable. Clek is also selling “Jackets” for the Olli in funky, kid-friendly patterns to make the seat more palatable for older passengers. But this seat is so unobtrusive, I doubt if many kids will even remember it is there.
