Evenflo recalls 450,000 infant seats
This news broke at the end of last week, and actually I wasn’t even going to write about it. I usually just cover recalls that effect merchandise we’ve sold in the store. But in this case, because the recall has such a broad impact, I’m going to make an exception, even though we have never carried this (or any) Evenflo car seat.
In short, there’s a problem with the plastic handle on the Evenflo Embrace models manufactured before April 8, 2006, and sold in stores between December 2004 and September 2006.
The hazard is described as this: “When used as an infant carrier, the handle can unexpectedly release, causing the seat to rotate forward. When this happens, an infant inside the carrier can fall to the ground and suffer serious injuries.” In fact, 160 injuries have been reported. My heart goes out to these families.
Evenflo is making a kit to strengthen the latch on the handle. For full details, visit the recall site, embracehandle.com
