Five minute rule?
I’ll confess I’m the kind of mother who loves the five second rule. OK, I’m hiding behind my kids. I’m the kind of person who loves the five second rule. I’m a klutz and my kids got the gene. Between us all, if I had to throw away all the food I ever dropped on the floor, I could feed a small country.
So I was delighted to see this little nugget on Boston.com. Apparently, researchers at Connecticut College conducted some experiments on a variety of dry and wet foods, dropping them on the floor and then testing them to determine how quickly they picked up bacteria. Great news! It’s way more than 5 seconds. In fact, you can wait nearly 30 seconds for wet foods and even longer for dry foods.
