Is that a dragon on your shoulder?

Ever since Magic Beans opened, our Thanksgiving weekends have been a bit different. We still have lots of turkey and family time, but we also spend late nights in the store, remerchandising, cleaning and getting prepared for the Holiday season. Don’t cry for me, though. When I was a kid, I used to dream about being locked in a toy store for the night, and working late always brings back that childhood fantasy. It’s not all work, let me tell you. We play, too.

While working in the store one night this week, I discovered the new Folkmanis Shoulder Dragon puppet sitting in a box on the floor. I immediately remembered seeing this at Toy Fair and loving it. I was surprised to see that it wasn’t getting much attention, but I think that most people don’t expect to find a great puppet packaged in a box. So I opened one up and had a blast playing with it. The dragon sits on the puppeteer’s shoulder, and the controls come down at waist-level. You can open and close the mouth, swish the tail, and swivel the head. It’s a pretty cool effect, and lots of fun to operate (and watch). If you’re in the neighborhood, stop by and ask for a demonstration – we’d be happy to oblige.
