Let’s Get Together: Family Game & Movie Night
By Allie Wassum & Dana Morgenstein

Here’s a simple recipe for family fun: play a game together, and then watch a movie! We paired some of our favorites according to theme – pick the one that works for you.

The Laser Game: Khet 2.0
Using the Force requires strategy and concentration. Khet requires both: the object is to eliminate your opponent’s pieces by using mirrors to change the course of a laser beam. It’s easy to learn but difficult to master, so everyone can give it a try – and everyone will want to, because lasers are just fun.

AND

Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope
Now that we’ve got that Force thing down, relax with this classic space opera, in which the brave Luke Skywalker uses his trusty lightsaber and the Force to defeat the evil Empire, with the help of Han Solo, Princess Leia, and some bumbling robots. There are spaceships, cool-looking aliens, and plenty of action – and look out for Darth Vader!

Build a Robot Puzzle and Spinner Game by Eeboo
Design the robots of the future! Spin the wheel and choose robot parts. When you’re done, name your robot and figure out what it does – is it a garbage-bot? A science-bot? A nanny-bot? Use your imagination.

AND

Wall-E
The robots of the future are lonely: in this dystopian future, Earth is covered in garbage and the human race lives in spaceships while robots clean up their mess. WALL-E is the last robot standing, but when a female bot named EVE arrives looking for proof that Earth is habitable again, they find both hope and true love.

Pengoloo by International Playthings
Eco-friendly Antarctic fun: match the color on the dice with the color of an egg hidden under a wooden penguin. Play as a memory game or amp up the competition with alternative rules. And Blue Orange plants two trees for every tree used to create their games.

AND

Happy Feet
More eco-fun with penguins: every Emperor Penguin has a “heartsong” that matches him to his mate. Poor Mumble can’t sing, but he has an unusual talent that might just make up for it: tap dancing! And believe it or not, his dancing might just save the polar ice caps, too.

Pirate Plank by Lego Games
Four unfortunate pirates are being forced to walk the plank. With each roll of the buildable LEGO dice, they move closer and closer to their doom. Use strategy, and perhaps some pirate trash-talk, to send your opponents to Davy Jones’s Locker; the last pirate standing wins.

AND

Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl
Follow the journey of the quirky, lovable Captain Jack Sparrow and Will Turner, a blacksmith in training, as they rescue a damsel in distress. Her captor, Captain Barbossa, believes that Elizabeth Swann is the key to breaking the ancient curse that dooms him for eternity to neither live nor die. A rousing high-seas adventure!

Elefun by Hasbro
This elephant has a unique talent: showering you with butterflies! Get a net and see how many you can catch. This game gets kids up and running around, and has flexible rules for different ages and numbers of kids.

AND

Dumbo
This elephant has an even cooler talent: after years of being mocked for his big floppy ears, Dumbo discovers that he can fly!
