Magic Beans is a Tween
It’s our birthday! Celebrate Magic Beans with our annual birthday sale: 7% off almost everything in all of our stores and on our website!
If I said that it seems like yesterday that we first opened our doors to Magic Beans in Brookline, I’d be lying. So much has happened in the past twelve years for us personally and professionally. On July 7 2004 we had a two year old and a newborn. Today we have a kid entering high school in the Fall, and a sixth and second grader (yes, we had a third kid along the way). Just like tweens (we know because we have one), so much is changing but at the same time we are staying true to who we are at our core.
How has retail changed over the last twelve years? In 2004 you couldn’t shop on your phone, and e-commerce was just a fledgling concept. We sent out out first few customer newsletters via — wait for it — snail mail. The channels through which customers can learn about products and shop for products has grown exponentially.
We love discovering new, unobtrusive, interesting ways to communicate with customers, but technology and social media platforms are constantly evolving, and we need to evolve with the times to stay relevant to our customers. The concept of a shopping experience is also changing, and we are figuring out ways to keep our store experience fresh and new.
And yet, we still stay true to who we are. When we started Magic Beans when Sheri and I were 26 & 27 years old, we wanted to create a store where we would want to shop. Our commitment to hiring compassionate, talented, friendly staff who are totally geeky about baby products and toys has never stopped. We are so proud of the teams at our stores, warehouse and office, and we love the hundreds of Magic Beans alumni, many of whom we are still in touch with.
We are also as passionate as ever about the products we sell. We still get a thrill from meeting new, expectant parents and walking them through everything they need to know about baby gear, and we still get really excited when a new game comes into the store, or the latest Lego set. It’s that passion for making every customer who walks into our stores feel like a friend that has not changed, and frankly has just become stronger.
The nice thing about 2016 is that we have platforms like YouTube (have you been to our YouTube channel?), and Instagram where we can share our expertise with so many more people. And through mbeans.com, we can share the Magic Beans experience with customers outside of New England. Exciting times. Who knows where we’ll be in another twelve years?
Thanks for your support, and for evolving with us through our tween years. Your commitment to shopping with us, and being part of our community means everything to us. And watch out – next year we’ll be a teenager.
