New Techno Rocks
The new Maclaren Techno XLR is here. This is probably the most anticipated new stroller of the year. Why? Because Maclaren has taken their enormously popular Techno model and turned into a travel system. This Techno comes with a car seat adaptor that is almost identical to the one on the Easy Traveler, and can accommodate a variety of infant car seats. Although Maclaren had originally planned to release the car seat adaptor as an optional accessory to the stroller, they wisely decided to include it in the box (and in the price).
I’ve always been an advocate for lightweight travel systems – if a stroller is going to be in and out of your trunk, it shouldn’t send you running for your chiropractor every time you need to lift it. The Techno XLR is not light, but at around 17 lbs, it’s also not too heavy. When folded, it is very compact, and it’s a phenomenal investment. This is the first true umbrella-fold stroller to take a car seat, and like all its siblings, this Techno has exceptional handling and nice features that will make it useful day in and day out for many years.
The 2007 Maclaren line will boast XLR models in cute colors, but for now the only option is neutral gray. The frame is wider than the standard Techno, but still narrower than the Easy Traveler. It looks and feels like a Techno, and when the car seat adaptor is not attached, you’d be hard-pressed to tell the difference between the XLR and the XT. The XLR comes with a very nice seat cover that adds cushioning and protection, as well as a rain cover.
