Radian Car Seat Debuts

We’ve just received our first shipment of the new Radian car seat, a convertible seat designed for children from 5-65 lbs. and up to 49″. There are many good reasons to be wary of a brand new car seat design, and I spent a lot of time with this seat before I agreed to carry it. But I really liked what I saw, and I think this will be a great new addition to the marketplace.

The Radian was designed by a team of serious safety geeks who use a litany of technical terms to describe their process and their results. There are serveral interesting documents available on their website (www.skjp.com) for anyone who is interested in the details. For the rest of us, let’s just say they did their homework with this product, and they have the test results to proove it.

The seat has a steel alloy frame, which makes it incredibly heavy (20.5 lbs), but also very strong. The child sits quite low, which was a conscious decision based on the optimal center of gravity in a crash. Although the seat is very roomy at the shoulders, it is also one of the narrowest seats on the market, making it an optimal choice for families who need to fit three car seats into the back seat of a car.

With all of this to offer, the seat also folds. It is airline approved, and with the optional backpack carrybag, it is a good choice for travel. The seat comes in four colors, and although the blue is my personal favorite, all of them are really nice, sueded fabrics in colors that will coordinate with practically any car interior. This is the first generation of a really innovative product, and I hope we’ll continue to see great things from this team.
