The Nuna Pipa Lite LX vs. Pipa Lite vs. Pipa | Car Seat Comparison

The Nuna Pipa Lite LX vs Pipa Lite vs Pipa Infant Car Seats

What a difference a year can make. In less than 6 months, Nuna’s Infant Car Seat selection has multiplied by 3. If you were a Nuna junkie last year, you’d only have the original Pipa to choose from, but now you’re able to pick exactly what’s right for you. Let’s compare the original Nuna Pipa to the Nuna Pipa Lite and Nuna Pipa Lite LX. It’s about to get real nerdy.

Weight: Let’s start with the numbers. The Pipa weighs 7.7lbs, the Pipa Lite weighs 5.3lbs, and the Pipa Lite LX weighs 5.7lbs. All are the top three lightest infant car seats we offer, so weight-wise, you can’t go wrong. But what makes both “Lite” Pipas so feather light is Nuna’s proprietary process. They use a revolutionary fusion of plastic and EPP foam to create an ultra resilient shell that remains slim. All three seats are incredibly safe for your baby, but Nuna just had to get smarter about their process in order for their newest seats to shed some pounds.

Base: All three use the same Pipa Series Base with ultra easy installation and stability leg, but it’s where they can be installed that sets them apart. The original Nuna Pipa is the only seat of these three that can be installed in a car or plane without the base. Both the Pipa Lite and Pipa Lite LX can only be installed with their base. Essentially, if you’re a family that solely travels by car, then you should absolutely consider one of the “Lites.” If you’re a family that travels by Uber, taxi, or plane often, then the original Pipa is the one for you.

Canopy: DreamDrape fanatics take note. The beloved cover for the Pipa that gives baby some naptime privacy is featured on both the original Pipa and Pipa Lite LX.  The Pipa Lite doesn’t have a DreamDrape, but all three still have a UPF 50+ sun canopy with flip out eyeshade.
