The sound of Mom

My mom sent me a link to a fascinating story on CNN.com yesterday – a scientific research study has just proven that young girls are comforted by the sound of their mother’s voice. And yes, OK, that does sound like they’re stating the obvious, but the researchers compared the response of girls who had physical contact with their moms after a stressful situation with girls who only got to speak to their moms over the phone. Guess what? The responses were really similar, which means that some long-distance encouragement is almost as good as a hug. As my mom said when she emailed me the link, “We’ve known it all along.”
