Vanessa Trien’s Carnival Beat
Like many of the moms here in Brookline, I have a minor obsession with Vanessa Trien. It’s not just because she’s an incredible musician who has followed her dreams and released two outstanding albums for children. It’s not just because she has a beautiful smile and a wonderful way with kids. It’s not just because she’s a warm, kind and generous person. It’s not just because her voice is like warm honey. It’s not just because my son and my nephew are both mini-groupies. It’s the sum of all these things that make her such a special part of our community.
Vanessa grew up in New York City singing along to family folk songs. She lived in Costa Rica for a bit, playing with an Afro-Caribbean band, which inspired her to start writing and performing her own material. Somewhere along the way, she got a Masters degree in education from Harvard.
Now along with creating her own music, Vanessa teaches music classes for Music Together and she also designs music and expressive arts projects in public elementary schools.
This coming Sunday morning (10/10) at 10:30am, Vanessa will be performing with her band, the Jumping Monkeys, at the Coolidge Theater. It promises to be an amazing show. You can purchase tickets in advance or at the door on Sunday morning. Don’t forget to stop by Magic Beans after the show!
