About the Maclaren Triumph Stroller

The Maclaren Triumph Stroller is really going places – all over the world, from what we hear. From Hawaii to New York City, from Italy to Maclaren’s native England, the Triumph is one of the finest strollers for traveling abroad: it weighs only 11 pounds and is simple to fold, so it’s made to go anywhere. And this stroller is pretty great at home, too, where it dashes over city sidewalks and simplifies city walkups.

Like any Maclaren umbrella stroller, the Triumph is built to last: its tough but light aluminum frame and sturdy fabrics will ferry around baby after baby for year after year. Plus, the Triumph stroller has a roomy seat to accommodate a large child – 13” wide, 18” seat back, 28” to the top of the canopy. So your four-year-old will be just as happy and comfortable as your six-month-old, and with a top weight limit of 55 pounds, kids can ride in style for a long time. The Maclaren Triumph stroller is also great for tall parents, with 41” handlebars that are comfortable for tall moms and dads – no kicking the back of the stroller!

Despite its weight and small wheels (5”), the Maclaren Triumph stroller pushes like a dream; as long as you’re pushing a lighter child, you can push with one hand, and it has a marvelous turn radius. The swiveling front wheels can be locked for rougher terrain. A rigid stroller seat adds back support for your child, and a one-handed strap recline lets kids sit back and relax a bit. The five-point stroller harness is designed for real security, with a buckle that’s easy for you to undo but absolutely impossible for your child!

The canopy on the Triumph is large for an umbrella stroller (this is a Maclaren, after all), and is water resistant; a stroller rain cover is included for extra coverage on nasty days. And when the weather gets too nasty and you have to stop mid-stroll to take a cab, your Maclaren Triumph stroller folds in seconds (Maclaren says it takes five seconds, but reviewers say it could be less!): it’s a one-hand, one-foot fold that locks in place, and a shoulder strap lets you sling your Triumph stroller over your shoulder and go.

Finally: the Maclaren Triumph Stroller is identical in function to its older sisters, but it does come in fun new colors with new styling. Each stroller color has a lighter strip running diagonally across the center of the seat, for a cool zigzag look that’s fresh and feisty anywhere you take your tot, on any continent.

easy to fold

limited sunshade, upright position too reclined, basket inaccessible

We bought this stroller right before going on vacation, as an alternative to bringing our "big" stroller. I was deciding between this one and the UPPAbaby g-luxe - similar price and features. I went with the Maclaren based on their years of experience in the umbrella stroller market.

We used the stroller for a week on vacation. Basically, our son (who is almost 2) hated it. First, the upright position is too reclined, so he kept straining to lean forward. We ended up shoving a towel behind the backrest to make it a little more upright for him. Second, the sunshade is basically useless unless you're walking aorund at mid day, away from the sun. If you're out in the early morning or afternoon, or walking towards to sun, it provided no cover at all. Third, the basket is a decent size, but was inacesssible with all the metal hinges across the back of the stroller. And finally, the red brake did not stay locked, nor was it obvious if it was in the locked position.

We have not used the stroller since we returned from vacation since our son refuses to sit in it. We actually tried to return it to Magic Beans, but since we had used it for a week, we were not able to.

No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
