Happy New Year!

I watched Back to the Future last night for the first time in at least a couple of decades, and at the end, when Doc Brown travels 30 years into the future, it was jarring to realize that he was going to 2015. Which is only 7 years away. Which means 23 years have passed since 1985. Yikes. For what ... Read More »

i’Coo Targo on YouTube

Check out this video demonstration of a new stroller from i’coo, the German company responsible for the i’coo Pico, which was a nice stroller but never really took off here in the USA. The new Targo looks a lot like several other hybrid style strollers on the market, but it has a couple of innovative features. I love the height ... Read More »

Orbit Toddler Car Seat

When Orbit Baby was launched, they promised to reinvent the travel system from top to bottom, and they also promised to extend the concept of the travel system beyond the common boundaries of the infant car seat. With the Orbit Infant System, they effectively fulfilled promise #1. The system has been a great success, with rave reviews from parents and ... Read More »

Boppy Slipcover Recall

Boppy is voluntarily recalling 38,000 of their Luxe slipcovers due to zipper problems that can manifest in two different ways. First, apparently the zipper pull can break, causing a choking hazard, and second, some of the zippers were found to have lead paint, which could obviously lead to problems if a baby were to teethe on the zipper. Now feeding…

Recent arrivals into our warehouse include the Skip Hop Palette Plate, some whimsical new melamine dish sets also from Skip Hop, and the new line of feeding products from Boon, including my very favorite, the ingenious Squirt, with a squeezable bulb that dispenses baby food directly onto the spoon. In my imagination (and based at least somewhat on prior experience), ... Read More »

Nilo gets a face lift

Nilo tables have long been admired by parents for their sturdy, solid wood construction, and the wide expanse of play space, perfect for wooden trains, blocks, games, Lego, craft activities or anything else a kid could dream up. But for all the great functionality, the Nilo table isn’t exactly a sexy piece of furniture. The angular profile seems much better ... Read More »

Imaginative Children

Playing make believe is one of those sacrosanct rituals of childhood. Kids can entertain themselves for hours, alone or with friends, lost in a world of pretend. Props can vary wildly, depending on what’s available. When I was little, my best friend and I could spend entire days in my basement with nothing but a tape recorder to capture our ... Read More »

My Holiday Toy Guide

Every holiday, people always ask me what’s the “hot” toy of the year. There hasn’t been a runaway bestseller in years, but there are still plenty of great options. Here are my top picks for the 2007 Holiday Season. Read More »

Do you recall?

I was in Borders today with my kids and there were signs all over the store that said “Books are safe gifts for kids.” Meanwhile, in the children’s section, they had an array of toys for sale, many of which are made in China. The whole media and public relations circus that’s surrounding these toy recalls is getting a little ... Read More »
