A Spider even I could love

Mutsy SpiderNormally, I hate anything having to do with Spiders. As ridiculous as it is, I’m totally terrified of them. But the new Spider stroller from Mutsy has enough redeeming qualities that I can look beyond its name.

We first saw the Mutsy Spider at the ABC show in Las Vegas. We were very excited about it back then, we were excited to see it again at JPMA last week, and we were even more excited when a shipment of them appeared in our warehouse yesterday.

The Spider is a bit of a contradiction. It’s a very compact stroller with an amazingly easy, one-step fold that’s on par with the Inglesina Zippy and the Baby Jogger City Series. It’s a three-wheeler, which gives it nice maneuverability. The basket is actually accessible, and there’s a sleek telescoping handlebar. There’s even a two-position recline. In other words, it’s quite fully-featured for a compact stroller. But surprisingly it’s not lightweight. The Spider weighs in just under 20 lbs.

The Spider is, nonetheless, a great stroller, and if it weighed 12 lbs, it would dominate the lightweight stroller category. As it stands, I think it will still be a success, and if you’re looking for a compact stroller, it’s worth considering. It’s a nice, sturdy stroller that handles really nicely and offers a lot of value for the price ($250).
