Ain’t nothing like the real thing, baby

AdiriMy kids were both die-hard lactivists. They were born that way. They simply didn’t believe in bottles. Personally, life would have been a lot easier if they hadn’t been quite so militant, but at the time, my lifestyle more or less accommodated round-the-clock nursing, so I didn’t push back too hard. I did try a half dozen different kinds of nipples, and I always suspected that a bottle more closely resembling the contours of a breast might actually fake them out. But such a product didn’t exist. Until now.

The Adiri Natural Nurser Ultimate Bottle has just arrived, and you (and hopefully your baby) will probably recognize that familiar silhouette. It’s a graceful design, and the materials are high-tech. The bottle is 100% free of polycarbonate and bisphenol-A, and the whole upper part is soft and squishy. Unlike a conventional bottle, the Ultimate Bottle is filled from the bottom, which is also vented to reduce colic. Overall, this is the most comprehensive redesign of the baby bottle in almost a century. Assuming it lives up to its promise and can walk the fine line of fooling babies without causing nipple confusion, the Natural Nurser Ultimate Bottle will be any nursing mother’s best friend.

The bottles come in three different flow levels, slow, medium and fast, and each 8 oz bottle sells for $12.50. They are dishwasher safe. The nipple is comolded onto the body of the bottle, so there is no assembly required and no small parts to lose in the dishwasher. On the downside, once the nipple wears out, you need to replace the entire bottle.

Yes, the Ultimate Bottle comes at a slightly higher price, but here’s another way to look at the economics. I would have readily paid at least $12 an hour for a babysitter back when I was nursing. If the Ultimate Bottle could have allowed me a couple of extra hours away every now and then, it would have been worth every penny.
