Nilo gets a face lift

Nilo Table French LegsNilo tables have long been admired by parents for their sturdy, solid wood construction, and the wide expanse of play space, perfect for wooden trains, blocks, games, Lego, craft activities or anything else a kid could dream up. But for all the great functionality, the Nilo table isn’t exactly a sexy piece of furniture. The angular profile seems much better suited to a preschool classroom than most living rooms (though I have one in place of a coffee table and I get plenty of compliments).

Now, design-conscious parents don’t have to compromise.¬† Nilo has released a new table for this year’s holiday season. This version is the exact same size as the original, but the wood stain is much darker – a rich walnut shade, and the legs are curved, like an antique piano. Or a coffee table. It’s very pretty.

Plus, Nilo tables come with holes drilled around the edge of the table. These holes are useful for many different kinds of activities, and we discovered over the weekend that they make a perfect anchor point for Tinker Toys.

French legs or not, the Nilo aesthetic may not appeal to the most ardent urbanites. The search for the ultimate modern train table isn’t over yet, but it’s moving in the right direction.

Note: We just received 6 of these at our warehouse, and Nilo is now sold out for the holidays. If you would like one, please send me an e-mail ASAP.
