Cybex recalls 1100 strollers

Following in the footsteps of Maclaren, Cybex has announced a voluntary recall of their Gems series strollers – the Ruby, Onyx and Topaz models. These umbrella-fold strollers have a nearly identical folding mechanism to Maclaren, so this should come as no surprise. According to the press release we received from Regal Lager, the US distributor of Cybex, there has been ... Read More »

Maclaren Recall (it’s OK – really)

First of all, calm down. Yes, Maclaren is recalling one million strollers. And yes, some children have been injured by the strollers during the past 10 years. BUT. There are two very important things to keep in mind: 1. This is a voluntary recall – in spite of the injuries (and their frightening nature), the CPSC has not mandated that ... Read More »

Baby Jogger City Mini Recall

The CPSC announced late yesterday a voluntary recall of 41,000 Baby Jogger City Mini strollers, both double and single models. The issue is that the buckle clasp on the 5-point harness can break or become unlatched creating a fall hazard. Consumers are advised to stop using the strollers and contact Baby Jogger to receive a replacement buckle. I have seen ... Read More »

Bugaboo Bee recalled

The CPSC announced today that the Bugaboo Bee stroller has been voluntarily recalled. Apparently the brake mechanism can wear out over time, causing it to fail on one or both sides. Thank goodness, no injuries have been reported. Anyone using this stroller should stop using it immediately and contact Bugaboo to receive a free repair kit. The form is simple ... Read More »

Britax Frontier Voluntary Recall

We got word today that Britax has issued a voluntary recall for some of its Frontier car seats.  All Frontiers manufactured between April 1, 2008 and September 14, 2008 are affected.  Frontiers in the Sahara color are affected if they were manufactured between April 1, 2008 and September 17, 2008. Britax has determined that after repeated adjustment of the harness ... Read More »

Boppy Slipcover Recall

Boppy is voluntarily recalling 38,000 of their Luxe slipcovers due to zipper problems that can manifest in two different ways. First, apparently the zipper pull can break, causing a choking hazard, and second, some of the zippers were found to have lead paint, which could obviously lead to problems if a baby were to teethe on the zipper. Do you recall?

I was in Borders today with my kids and there were signs all over the store that said “Books are safe gifts for kids.” Meanwhile, in the children’s section, they had an array of toys for sale, many of which are made in China. The whole media and public relations circus that’s surrounding these toy recalls is getting a little ... Read More »

Aqua Dots Recall

Isn’t this getting to be ridiculous already? Today, the CPSC announced a recall of the brand new Aqua Dots product line from SpinMaster. These little beads were designed to be a sort of three dimensional alternative to the popular classic Hama Beads (those little tubular beads that fuse together when you iron them). The Aqua Dots are completely spherical, and ... Read More »

Triple whammy

First of all, I am so flattered by the lovely comments on the birthday post. You really made me feel great. Thank you. But the party’s over and I have three new product “issues” to share with you. First, Britax is recalling a limited number of Marathon car seats manufactured between May 23, 2006 and July 28, 2006. Apparently, the ... Read More »

Two Modern Crib Recalls

Stokke and NettoCollection have both issued voluntary recalls related to their cribs. The issues are completely unrelated to Chinese manufacturing. For Stokke, the problem is with the mattress. Some of the mattresses included with the cribs were made too small, so they leave a gap between the edge of the mattress and the bars of the crib. No injuries have ... Read More »
