JPMA Innovation Awards at ABC Kids Show

We’re back in Las Vegas for our 6th ABC Kids Show. Earlier this summer, Eli and I were really thrilled when we got the email asking us to judge the annual JPMA Innovation Awards. We evaluate new baby gear every day for our customers, but recognition that we were qualified to do this on a larger level was exciting. Practically ... Read More »

Orbit gets thumbs-up from NHTSA

We just received a letter from Joseph Hei, CEO and Co-founder of Orbit Baby. After last week’s debacle with Consumer Reports, Orbit went straight to the NHTSA and asked them to test the seat. Small wonder, it passed with flying colors. Consumer Reports continued to defend their testing, but public opinion online has been widespread in favor of Orbit Baby ... Read More »

Baby Jogger City Mini Recall

The CPSC announced late yesterday a voluntary recall of 41,000 Baby Jogger City Mini strollers, both double and single models. The issue is that the buckle clasp on the 5-point harness can break or become unlatched creating a fall hazard. Consumers are advised to stop using the strollers and contact Baby Jogger to receive a replacement buckle. I have seen ... Read More »

Shop & Roll

Zev steals a turn with the Melissa & Doug Deluxe Grocery Cart while his older sisters are otherwise engaged. We brought lots of merchandise with us to the Cape to photograph for this year’s holiday catalog, but this has been the most popular by far – even with our smallest toy tester. Read More »

Safeguard Go going to Dorel

The Safeguard Go car seat has been off the market for the past few months while IMMI, the company behind the brand, looked for a new distribution partner. According to a letter we received yesterday, their search has ended and Dorel will be distributing the product under the Safety 1st brand. To make a long story short, the seat should ... Read More »

Consumer Reports FAIL?

Two years ago, Consumer Reports was rocked by controversy when they botched their testing for a number of infant car seats and then proceeded to drag the good name of those models through the mud before eventually retracting the whole story. The incident led to some staffing changes at Consumer Reports, and they’ve been trying to earn back their credibility ... Read More »

First Look: Baby Jogger City Select

Here’s a scoop: in advance of the upcoming ABC Kids Show in Las Vegas, we stumbled upon an ad today in an industry magazine that had us scraping our jaws off the floor. Baby Jogger is apparently introducing a new stroller, the Baby Jogger City Select, a hybrid stroller that can accommodate one child or two in a dizzying array ... Read More »

Mountain Buggy production moving to China

It’s hardly a surprise, but a big disappointment nonetheless. According to an article from a New Zealand media outlet, phil&teds has made the decision to move Mountain Buggy production from New Zealand to China. But I’ve never met a Chinese-made stroller that comes close to the solid, sturdy feel of the Mountain Buggy. When our friends from phil&teds visited a ... Read More »

Getting warmer: reusable baby wipes

If you’ve thought about cloth diapering and decided it’s not for you, here’s an interesting alternative. Prince Lionheart has come out with Warmies, a baby wipes system that takes reusable, ultra-soft bamboo washcloths, and keeps them warm and damp. I’m a fan because the wipes are extremely gentle on the baby’s delicate skin, you save money because you aren’t buying ... Read More »

Best Stokke Sleepi promotion ever

From now through October 15, if you purchase a Stokke Sleepi, the mattress (or mattresses, depending on which configuration you get) will be FREE. We are incredibly psyched about this. A) because it’s an amazing value and B) because I have two Sleepi systems in my house, and love them and think every parent should have one. Aside from the ... Read More »
