Coo Tipping and Ringgz

(It’s all French to me)

The 2006 games from Blue Orange have just arrived, and there are some great new additions to their popular line of wooden games. If you aren’t familiar with Blue Orange, you should check out Gobblet, which was their first breakout hit. It’s a strategy game that is similar to Tic Tac Toe, but much more interesting (and winnable). But I digress.

CooCooCooCoo is a follow-up to the best-selling Zimbbos (and if you’re really unfamiliar with these games, I’m probably not making any sense at all). Zimbbos is the rare game that is playable with very young children (3 and up), but is truly fun for all ages. Players create a pyramid of elephants and other circus animals. Knock it down and the game is over. In CooCoo, the centerpiece is a rocking clown. Players add various sized cylanders onto each arm, but if you tip the clown, the game is over. I enjoyed playing CooCoo at Toy Fair. It is quite a bit more challenging than Zimbbos, so it may be slightly frustrating for the youngest players. But with practice the whole family will enjoy playing this game together. Or not. CooCoo is a great solitaire game, too.

RinggzFor older players, Blue Orange has created Ringgz, an engaging strategy game for ages 8 and up. In Ringgz, players use sets of nesting rings to lay claim to the territories on the game board. The rules are somewhat involved, but it only takes a few minutes to learn to play. Once you’ve got it down, the game play goes very quickly and it’s a lot of fun.
