Treasure hunt in a bag

Peek a Boo BagThe Peek-a-Boo Bag started out as a handmade crafts fair product that became so popular that the inventors decided to mass produce them. The first time I saw these, I liked them, but over the past year they’ve pushed the aesthetic from crafty to contemporary, giving them more appeal with design-conscious parents, and making them more easily merchandised on retail shelves. Like ours.

The Peek-a-Boo Bag is basically a sewn pillow with a transparent window. It’s stuffed with an assortment of trinkets, charms, letters and other easily identifiable items embedded in a sea of white plastic spheres. As children shake and squeeze the pillow, they’re able to find most or all of the items. It’s a similar concept to Find It, but not nearly as difficult, making it ideal for children ages 3-6.

The bag includes a snap-on list of all the items to find, which my daughter promptly misplaced, making me wonder if it wouldn’t be smarter to just print the list directly on the bag someplace. It’s the one weak link in an otherwise strong product.

There are three different varieties: a Girl bag, a Boy bag and an ABC bag. My staff wasn’t thrilled with the gender-specific theming, and while I do think they could have come up with a unisex option, I also understand why they did it this way. Although my daughter likes to play with hers at bedtime, I especially like these for restaurants and travel. They’re lightweight and soft, so they’ll go right into a diaper bag or purse. And for just $15, they’re a good buy.

  1. Hi! Thank you for a great review! Just thought you might want some insite as to why the snap on the tag. When we first made the Peek-a-Boo Bag I found myself having to pass the bag back and forth while my daughter yelled, “what next?” Even though I was the one that had designed all the pieces inside I still couldn’t remember everything on the list. So, now a parent can hold the list in the front of the car and read off what to find, with out having to pass it back and forth. If you lose the tag, just call us and we will replace it! We make extras just in case.

FYI, we are changing the “Boy” bag to “Rough ‘n’ Tuff, and the “Girl” bag to Sugar ‘n’ Spice, to be more politically correct.

Hope you and your readers love them!
