About the UPPAbaby G-LUXE Stroller 2013 / 2014

One perennial question among moms of young children is: how many strollers do you need? It seems to vary widely among each family. Some moms try to find one stroller that will suit all of the environments they inhabit; some will get two for different environments (say, one for the trail and one for the mall). Some moms just can’t stop at one or two, and become collectors, with two kids and seven strollers.

And then there are some moms who buy several strollers but mostly use one, and that stroller is often an UPPAbaby G-Luxe. Designed by the same stroller whizzes that created the immensely popular UPPAbaby Vista, the 2013 / 2014 UPPAbaby G-Luxe Stroller is so light and easy to use – and yet so fully functional for an 11-pounder – that you may find yourself leaving heavier stroller models in the hall closet for months at a time.

The UPPAbaby G-Luxe Stroller was tweaked in 2013 for even better performance:

  • New look: The UPPAbaby G-Luxe Stroller has been redesigned for a sleeker look, an even stronger frame, and an even more substantial feel. It also has new high-performance wheels with cool-looking rims, and an improved, more durable footrest.
  • More carrying capacity: The UPPAbaby G-Luxe now boasts an increased weight capacity of 55 pounds, to extend use even longer.
  • New fold: The new folding triggers make it even easier to fold your G-Luxe stroller – they’re at hand level, and you won’t need to use your feet to complete the fold. As with previous models, the UPPAbaby G-Luxe Stroller stands when folded with a convenient (and improved) kickstand, so those gorgeous fabrics don’t get mucked up on the sidewalk.
  • New fabrics, new colors: Not only does the UPPAbaby G-Luxe stroller come in a lovely variety of colors (check out the new Special Edition Black!), and not only are the fabrics fully removable for washing, but now, “Stain Defend” fabric provides a first line of defense, making spot-cleaning easier.
  • New recline: The updated seat recline is less fiddly, with a button that you squeeze rather than drawstrings.

Of course, a successful formula shouldn’t be changed too much, so the 2013 / 2014 UPPAbaby G-Luxe Stroller still has the following great features:

  • Light weight: At only 11 pounds, the UPPAbaby G-Luxe is among the lightest reclining strollers on the market. The light but tough aluminum frame provides the maximum durability with the minimum added weight.
  • Basket: The stroller basket is spacious and easy to reach.
  • Smooth ride: Shock-absorbing 4-wheel suspension and high-performance wheels provide your little passenger with a smooth ride. If the going gets rough, you can lock the swiveling front wheels in place.
  • Great canopy: Reviewers love the generously-sized canopy on the UPPAbaby G-Luxe Stroller, especially the pop-out shade that covers baby’s face. The fabric is SPF 50+ protected for a nice safe stroll on sunny days.
  • Handles: Tall ergonomic handles make the UPPAbaby G-Luxe stroller comfortable for even very tall parents.

And of course, the UPPAbaby G-Luxe comes with a standard 5-point harness with a Velcro buckle cover.

Because the UPPAbaby G-Luxe Stroller is so portable, it’s perfect for travel, and great for everyday use for urban parents, since it’s a breeze on the subway or the bus. Got a three-story walkup apartment? This is the stroller for you. And even if you don’t? Give the 2014 UPPAbaby G-Luxe Stroller a try, and you may find yourself falling in love.

Q: Is there a difference between the 2014 UPPAbaby G-Luxe Stroller and the 2013 model?A: Nope - why change a stroller that's this great? The 2014 UPPAbaby G-Luxe Stroller has the same fantastic features as the previous year's model. Read more about the 2014 UPPAbaby stroller line at the Spilling the Beans blog.

Great space saver

compact, comfortable, easy to push & steer

Save space in the car without sacrificing your comfort or your child's when walking. I purchased this for a car trip where the big stroller just wasn't going to fit with all our gear. I am extremely happy with the purchase. My daughter (11 mos), loved this stroller and perhaps even prefers it to her big stroller for riding while awake and also for napping. It has a comfortable seat, good recline, smooth ride. It's also tall enough that I am comfortable pushing it, at 5'10".

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.

Does the job

lightweight, easy to fold and unfold, somewhat compact, reclines into 3 different positions, easy to strap child in, and stylish

need both hands to maneuver stroller when not a flat surface (ie grass or gravel), expensive, and not enough storage space

We were happy with our purchase. There are so many umbrella strollers out there that look similar but this one is different. The main reason why we purchased this was because of the option to recline the seat into 3 different positions; not many do this in a way that is compact. My baby loves it!

Almost perfect

Durable, Easy to fold, Lightweight, Stand Up Fold

Shallow sides, two-handed steering

This is our first (and hopefully only) umbrella stroller purchase, and we really love it. It's very light, easy to fold and unfold, takes up little room in the trunk, can stand up when folded so we don't have to lay it down or lean it on anything, looks nice, maneuvers nicely* and has a smooth ride*. The canopy is also massive, which is great, and it can recline for naptime.

Two downsides that have me reaching for our standard stroller on the regular:

1. We've been spoiling our DD (and ourselves) in the BOB Revolution SE all this time regardless of where we go - walking through the trails, down the sidewalk, through the mall, etc. It's really not a fair comparison because they obviously serve different purposes, but the seat is so deep in the BOB and the sides have mesh pockets for DD to have a book or water or something. She's very comfy in there (almost tucked away), which keeps her content for as long as possible. With the umbrella stroller, the sides are very shallow so there is little to no room to have anything tucked in next to her without it likely falling out. Certainly no pockets in there for her. She's out in the open for the most part and therefore is anxious to get out of the stroller pretty quickly if we're at the mall for example. But of course, it would be easiest for me to bring the umbrella stroller to the mall, not the BOB...

2. Again, this is an issue that occurs with all umbrella strollers and isn't something that is specific to this one, but I still feel it's worth mentioning for people who are considering an umbrella stroller purchase. Two handed steering/shock absorption. I never thought about it in the past b/c I've never had to do it, but if you want to bring this baby outside on the grass or sidewalk or road, trust me - you will need to use both hands. And it's going to vibrate quite a bit, and you'll need to focus on maneuvering. We took this on a walk around our neighborhood, and let me tell you it's the shortest walk we've ever taken. On smooth floors, you really don't need to hands so no big deal. This stroller will glide along. It's not that I don't tend to hold the handlebar with both hands on the BOB - I do, but I don't have to if I need to grab something.

So yes, I've learned if I'm going for a "walk" or something athletic, this is not the stroller I want to use. If I want something light and easy to bring with me, this is perfect (if I could convince my daughter to stay in it...) I know I sound mixed, but this really is an awesome umbrella stroller. I think the question is whether an umbrella stroller is right for you.

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.
