Magic Beans Fun Size Picks: Top Five Eco-Friendly Toys
Hey everyone – it’s Kelsey again, with the scoop from Magic Beans Fun Size, in NYC! As you may remember from my last blog, our store is located in the lobby at Kidville in the Upper East Side, and we sell a handpicked selection of the best-of-the-best toys for ages 0-5. As with any other Magic Beans store, along with our amazing selection, we offer superb customer service: my team will ensure that you find exactly the toy you need to make any birthday or holiday special.
Speaking of toys, I’ve got another list of my faves for you today! These products are made with sustainable materials and eco-friendly production, so they’re kind to the Earth as well as fun for your littles.
1) Hape/Educo Early Melodies Pound and Tap Bench, $29.99, ages 12 months and up
Hape Toys are among the world’s largest producers of wooden toys made with sustainable materials and processes. Their production process strategically minimizes environmental impact, and reduces byproducts and waste.
The Pound and Tap Bench is made with sturdy wood with a non-toxic water-based finish, plus metal xylophone keys. When your child pounds a ball through the holes in the bench, the ball hits a colorful xylophone inside, playing a zingy little scale. Toddlers love experimenting with cause-and-effect, and while they play, they’ll be improving their hand/eye coordination, fine motor skills, and basic problem-solving skills.
2) Plan Toys Planwood Dancing Alligator, $19.99, ages 12 months and up
As part of their effort to use more sustainable materials, PlanToys invented PlanWood: a non-toxic composite wood made by compressing sawdust with formaldehyde-free E-zero glue. The resulting material is as lightweight as wood and has the same awesome clack-clack sound that kids love, but it’s even tougher – and you can clean it in the dishwasher!
PlanWood also has a really lovely pottery-like look to it, which perfectly complements the design of the Dancing Alligator, the perfect pull toy for early walkers (or for your crawling baby to chase while you pull it). It combines a wave-like action and a compelling clicking sound as it’s pulled along.
3) Hape/Educo Butterfly Pusher, $24.99, ages 12 months and up
More from Hape! The Butterfly Push Pal is a timeless toy that will encourage your little walker to practice coordination and balance, while also improving their gross motor skills. This toy will keep your child endlessly entertained as they watch the wooden butterfly’s vivid, rainbow-colored wings flap with each step they take. The Butterfly Push Pal is made from wood that originates from an FSC managed forest, and is colorfully decorated with non-toxic, water-based paint.
4) Green Toys Stacking Cups, $12.99; ages 6 months and up
Green Toys products are made in the USA from 100% recycled milk containers! That reduces greenhouse gas emissions and energy used in shipping and production. Plus, they contain no external coatings and they’re dishwasher safe. Terrific!
The My First Green Toys Stacking Cups set comes with six graduated cups that can nest neatly together, or be turned upside-down to stack up towers. They’re sized to teach basic counting and math concepts: this one is bigger, this one is smaller… Plus, they’re great to use in the bath to scoop and pour.
5) Green Toys Tea Set, $27.99; ages 3 and up
The Green Toys Tea Set “serves” many purposes for your young host or hostess: it’s perfect for pretend-play on their own or with a new pal, encouraging them to use their imagination, practice social skills, and develop gross and fine motor skills. The set comes with a teapot with lid, sugar bowl with lid, creamer, four cups, four saucers, and four spoons.
